Dear Parents
Thank you to all of you who contributed to the Head of School search process and shared your feedback. I hope to be able to share an update from the Board regarding the outcome before the October break. It was fantastic to see our talented staff and parents perform at the potluck dinner and to see our community spirit in action. Special thanks to our wonderful PTA, ground staff and cleaners who did so much to make the event happen and return the school to normal. It was a lovely way for us to start the 40th anniversary celebrations.
This week has seen us conducting MAP progress tests in Secondary School. These computer-adaptive standardised assessments are not something students can or should prepare for. We use them internally to measure growth in key subjects at different points of the year so that we may adjust teaching and provide intervention and support where needed. It is really important as adults that we do not create assessment anxiety for students and that we focus on celebrating growth and improvement not just grades.
There have been several opportunities for families to be in school this week to celebrate learning or discuss how to help their children with learning. Grade 3 held a Belief-Inspired Art & Performance event to celebrate their learning in their Who We Are unit. Grade 5 integrated music and dance into their Cultural Museum to celebrate their work on identity. It was lovely to see the students asking for feedback after they presented their work towards their inquiry questions and to see the enthusiasm they had for sharing their learning with an audience. The Grade 6 parent workshop provided opportunities to discuss the differences and similarities between primary and secondary and how we can work in partnership to help students transition and become more independent.
Last week we introduced How can we help? This is a way for families to ask general questions directly to the school's Senior Leadership Team and suggest ideas for parent workshops. Thank you to those of you who have already used it. We will use the October PTA meeting as an opportunity to answer some of these questions and also share in the following newsletter for those who cannot get to the PTA.
Wishing you all a lovely weekend
Best wishes
Dr Heather

The Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the most cherished holidays celebrated across China and many East and Southeast Asian countries. At its heart, it is a time to gather with loved ones, give thanks, and admire the full moon—a beautiful symbol of completeness, unity, and family reunion.
This Wednesday during Dragon Time, our Grades 6–10 students jumped into the festive spirit by learning about the holiday's rich heritage and crafting custom Chinese calligraphy bookmarks. Beyond the creative fun, these moments play a vital role in nurturing true international-mindedness; by exploring global traditions and recognizing shared values like family and gratitude, our students learn to approach the world with open hearts and curious minds.
Events like this are a true team effort. A huge shout-out to Ibu Deswita for smoothly managing the logistics and Ibu Ari for purchasing the materials, as well as to Ms. Maud, Mr. Shaun, and Mr. Robert for championing and supporting this project! A special thank you also goes to all the advisors for beautifully facilitating the activity with their students.
With more exciting Chinese cultural activities lined up this year, we warmly welcome your ideas and look forward to collaborating with our wonderful PTA to bring even more memorable experiences to our school community!
40 years of memories. 40 years of learning. 40 years of being part of the BIS community.
At our Potluck Dinner last week, we proudly revealed the official Bali Island School 40th Anniversary logo!
After months of ideas, conversations, and creative contributions from our community, we are excited to unveil the Bali Island School 40th Anniversary logo officially!
This special logo will become part of our celebration throughout the year and will be featured across our 40th Anniversary events, merchandise, presentations, email signatures, school communications, and more.
It represents an important milestone in the BIS journey — celebrating where we have come from, where we are today, and the many exciting years ahead.
Our 40th Anniversary logo journey would not be complete without the creativity and enthusiasm of our students.
A special shout-out to the three students who took part in designing and submitting their ideas for the 40th Anniversary logo. Your creativity and willingness to contribute have made this celebration even more meaningful.
We believe that an anniversary is not only about looking back at our history, but also about giving our current community a chance to leave their own mark on the story of BIS.
To celebrate their hard work, all three student designs will be displayed on a school board throughout the year, giving our community a chance to see the creativity behind the logo journey.
Shawn (Grade 7)
Keegan (Grade 9)
Timur (Grade 10)
Thank you, Keegan, Shawn, and Timur, for sharing your ideas and helping us celebrate this special milestone.
