Dear Parents
I hope you have had a good week and that you found our Open House on Tuesday helpful. We understand that it can be a challenge to see all the teachers especially when you have more than one child and if you have any suggestions on how we could improve the event please let us know. You will often hear me say “every day is a school day” and I truly believe we never stop learning; as a school we are keen to grow and improve and your feedback helps with this.
Thank you to everyone who supported Independence Day on Monday. Being able to celebrate with our Indonesian colleagues and families is one of the many privileges of being part of the BIS community. I have worked in many different schools in my career and am proud to lead this community where the best of international education is grounded in Indonesian culture.
The model we have at BIS is different to most schools. Many Primary schools have a homeroom teacher who is supported by a classroom or teaching assistant. Here at BIS our Primary homerooms have a homeroom teacher and an Indonesian Teaching Partner (ITP) who is also a qualified teacher. In Kindergarten and Pre-School there are in fact 3 qualified teachers for each class. This is just one of the ways that the Board shows their commitment to teaching and learning.
Working closely with the Board I am able to share and advocate for the priorities for teaching and learning. The Board supports me to run the day to day operations of the school by taking care of taxes, legal matters and budgeting systems. I am most grateful that they are the ones who deal with the many landlords who own the land that makes up our campus so that I can focus on education! Through weekly meetings and working in partnership we look at how we can best support our students.
The Board are keen to share their role and their ambition for the school and explain the complex governance structure behind BIS and we invite you to join us for a Governance Community Presentation on Wednesday 26th August at 2:15-2:45. There will be an opportunity to chat with our three Board members after the presentation. We hope to see you there.
Wishing you all a lovely weekend.
Best wishes
Dr Heather
Polite request - Please can you ensure children are collected promptly from school. This should be at 2:45pm if your child does not have a CCA or activity and at 4pm if they have a CCA or activity. Our teachers collaborate and work after school and supervising children who have not been collected prevents them from doing this. Your support with this would be greatly appreciated.

This event will hopefully take place on the afternoon/evening of Tuesday 22nd September. The idea of this event is to bring together the different elements of our community in a social and celebratory way. We are also going to use this event to help commemorate our 40th anniversary. If you would like to be involved please join the group and attend our first meeting which will happen in the next week.
Thank you!
