Athena Masilungan, President
Athena Masilungan is one of the founding parents of Balay Sofia and set the foundations for its Early Childhood program.
She has now been a Waldorf teacher for over 14 years and is completing her grade school journey as the main teacher with her current Grade 8 class at Acacia Waldorf School.
Athena is trained in Kindergarten and Grade School Waldorf teaching and is one of 10 certified Extra Lesson (Waldorf LearningSupport) teachers in the Philippines, with certification from the Association of Healing Education (USA). She also holds a certificate in Introduction to Eurythmy from the Swiss Eurythmy Association.
She is a licensed teacher with a Bachelor's Degree in Theater Arts, minor in Speech Communication and a Master's degree in Language and Literacy Education, both from the University of the Philippines.
Athena continues to be a student of Anthroposophy and currently serves as the president of the Board of Trustees of Balay Sofia Inc.
Before pursuing her passion and advocacy for Waldorf Education, Athena was into theater arts and classical dance.
Sharmaine de Guzman, Corporate Secretary
Sharm is one of the pioneer teachers of Balay Sofia Inc. She is a supporter of sustainable, healthy, and eco-friendly living. Her ideals and
passion for changing the education system are her driving inspiration to do her personal initiatives.
Sharm is a licensed professional teacher and is a BA Social Sciences, Major in Social Anthropology, Minor in Philosophy graduate from the University of the Philippines Baguio. She also took MA Social and Development Studies units from the same university.
Michelle Quinto-Atos, Treasurer
Michelle is foremost a wife to Stephen and mother to Miguel, Marco, and Santino.
She has 25 years experience in the fields of business development, social entrepreneurship, innovative financing, and fundraising. Her creative interests include environmental preservation and home restorations. She is passionate about bringing people together for community development and social empowerment.
Michelle is co-founder of Balay Sofia where she serves as VP-Treasurer under the Board of Trustees
Pamela Ngayodan, Member
Pamela M. Ngayodan is an Educator who joined Balay Sofia Inc. in July of 2017. She started as an Assistant Kindergarten Teacher, then became a Main Class Teacher for the Early Childhood and Class 2. She likes doing handwork and shares her knowledge in the higher grades. To enhance her knowledge, capacities and skills, she participated in different training and seminars such as the Asian Teacher Training in Acacia Waldorf School and 15-Day Intensive Beginner’s Course in Steiner/Waldorf Early Childhood Education under Bella Tan and Joaquin Tan in 2018 to 2019 and attended recent online seminars like Kassel Conference “From Developmental Tasks to Actual Lessons” to name a few. She believes in what Rudolf Steiner said that “Waldorf education is not a pedagogical system but an art - the art of awakening what is actually there within the human being."
