When you adopt from Back Step Strays, you are gaining a lifetime companion. To set you and your new pet up for success, all of our adoptions include:

• Spay or neuter surgery

• Microchip and registration

• Age-appropriate vaccines

• De-wormer

• Flea treatment

• Heartworm test (for dogs)

Our Compatibility Guarantee: While there is a person for every animal, we know that not every animal is for every person. If you adopt an animal and discover that you are not compatible, you may return your pet within 30 days, satisfaction guaranteed.

The Adoption Process:

Step 1: Browse Our Pets

Click on the dog and cat photos on our website to see the amazing animals currently available for adoption.

Step 2: Submit the Adoption Application

If you find a pet that you'd like to learn more about and think would be a good match, fill out the form below to submit an inquiry. Alternatively, you can visit them during one of our adoption events or schedule a private appointment. Submitting an inquiry does not place a hold or reservation on the pet, but it does notify our team that you are interested, have questions, or want to set up a time to visit.

Step 3: Meet The Pet

We encourage you to come visit the pet as soon as possible! If you submitted an adoption inquiry, we will do our best to respond within 1-2 days. If the pet is currently in a foster home, we will connect you directly with the foster family to set up a convenient time for a meet-and-greet.

Step 4: Determine If It’s A Good Match

When you meet the pet, we will share everything we know about them to help you decide if they are the right fit for you, your existing pets, and your family. If it’s not a perfect match, that’s okay! We will gladly help you find a better fit—there are always lots of wonderful dogs and cats looking for homes.

Step 5: Finalize The Adoption

Last, but not least, finalize your adoption! Most pets can be taken home the very same day. We charge an adoption fee, which allows us to rescue and help even more animals. Our fees range from $15 to $125 depending on the age and size of the animal. Keep an eye out for our adoption specials and events when fees may be reduced or waived! You can also choose to make an additional donation to help other pets find their great homes.

Step 6: Tell Your Circle Of Friends And Family

Love your new animal? Share your experience with your family and friends to help spread the word and assist other Back Step Strays animals in finding their furever homes!

What to Bring:

Please ensure you have the following items with you when you come to finalize your adoption:

• Picture ID: Must show your current address (e.g., a Driver's License or State ID).

• Proof of Age: You must be 18 or older to adopt a pet from Back Step Strays.

• Proper Form of Payment: We accept cash, credit/debit cards, or money orders.

• Travel Supplies: A secure carrier for your adopted kitty, or a sturdy leash and collar for your adopted dog.
