Bay Area Apprenticeships
Apprenticeships are growing in importance to industry and our workforce development system here in California. The Chancellor’s office has shown it's support of apprenticeships through continuing CAI grants, and the governor’s office has set a goal of 500,000 apprentices by 2029. To reach this goal, the colleges will need help.
The role of Regional Director of Apprenticeship was created to be a resource to colleges, industry, WDB’s, and others in the region to help build stronger apprenticeship programs. Adele Burnes stepped into this newly created role in September 2020 to support colleges as they establish and build apprenticeships. She has since moved on to the Deputy Chief position at the Division of Apprenticeship Standards. John Dunn has taken over the role and works with Deans and Sector Regional Directors, the CA Division of Apprenticeship Standards (DAS), the US Department of Labor (DOL), the California Apprenticeship Council (CAC), the Interagency Advisory Committee on Apprenticeship (IACA), the CA Community College Chancellors Office , Go-Biz, and others to help our colleges enroll more apprentices through FTES and create more apprenticeship programs.
This role was created through a Regional Joint Venture between the 28 Bay Area Community Colleges and funded by the CA Strong Workforce Funds.
