Program Description: Drag Queen Story Hours (DQSH) have brought inclusive literacy and safe spaces to readers across the world. The members of Drag Story Hour- Arizona (DSH-Az) has dedicated themselves to bring the story hours to bookstores and libraries in Arizona. Join us for a roundtable to learn the history of DSH-Az and DQSH, methods of serving marginalized communities and a chance to have thoughtful conversations about DQSH and how to organize an event at your organization.

Michelle Miranda-Thorstad began working with in the public library field in 2010 where she grew to love the art of story hours. In 2017, she left public libraries in order to freely pursue inclusive story hours and was part of the core group to find Drag Story Hour- Arizona (DSH-Az) in Fall 2018. As the executive director, Michelle assisted in incorporating DSH-Az as the official Arizona chapter of the national Drag Queen Story Hour network. Since then, she has been working developing story hours that help readers of all ages come together to be their truest selves.

Ms. Lassen is a new librarian and an ardent community volunteer, activist, and ally to the LGBTQ+ community. Her work history includes both academic and public libraries, as well as many roles in education - from early education all the way up through university. Jill is also deeply involved with several community organizations, including the Scottsdale Parent Council, where she serves as the Vice President of Programming. Her involvement with DSH-Az started over a year ago, helping plan and implement the first event hosted by a higher education institution in Arizona. She is extremely proud of the many programs that DSH-Az offers to the community and to be part of such a forward thinking and inclusive organization.

Born and raised in California, Lenore moved to Arizona in 1994. She and her family own a small business in Scottsdale. A mother of two and grandmother of five, Lenore is dedicated to promoting early literacy and to creating safe and supportive places where children are be free to be who they are. She has played an incredible role in developing Drag Story Hour- Arizona into what it is today.
