About the Laboratory of Functional Materials and Devices (LFMD)

The Laboratory of Functional Materials and Devices (LFMD) is a dynamic research hub that commenced its journey in 2017. Situated within the vibrant academic environment of the Department of Physics at Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan, LFMD was established with a resolute mission: to advance the frontiers of science in the realm of functional materials and devices.

Our Mission

Our fundamental mission is to promote and pioneer scientific exploration in the domain of functional materials and devices. We are committed to pushing the boundaries of knowledge and innovation, with a focus on materials that possess remarkable properties and applications. In pursuit of this mission, LFMD brings together a dedicated team of three esteemed faculty members and seven enthusiastic scholars who collectively drive our research forward.

Diverse Research Areas

The heart of our research group lies in the multifaceted exploration of materials. We venture into various domains of scientific investigation, covering a vast spectrum of applications, particularly in the domains of electronic and communication systems. Moreover, our research extends into the realm of theoretical studies using density functional theory, enabling us to explore materials at the atomic and molecular levels.

Research Expertise

At LFMD, our work spans a multitude of research activities, with a primary focus on the fabrication and characterization of functional materials and devices. We boast extensive experience in the synthesis of inorganic materials, employing both physical and chemical routes to create novel substances with unique properties. Our advanced characterization capabilities encompass a wide array of techniques, including X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Raman Spectroscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), LCR (Inductance, Capacitance, Resistance) measurements, Impedance Spectroscopy, UV-Visible (UV-Vis) Spectroscopy, Cyclic Voltametry and more.
