Cal-hosa chapter officer training series

This Fall (2020), the HOSA Officer team participated in an officer training series hosted by GIANT. GIANT is a global media and content development company, who specializes in leader transformation. Under the mentorship of Scott Mathie from TEAMTRI (leadership training team) and Scott Cornelius, HOSA Officers from all over California learned about the different strategies associated with becoming an effective leader. The California HOSA Officers learned about the five voices, the five gears, the leader mindset, and more. These virtual events were taken place on October 27, November 2, November 10, and November 16.

Leader Mindset

There are five questions that should be considered in a leader's mindset.

The five gears, along with the reverse gear, describe the level of concentration that somebody is in.

The five voices include the nurturer (43% of population), creative (9%), guardian (30%), connector (11%), and pioneer (7%).

Rules of team engagement

Each voice has their own unique way of engaging. It is important to respect the voice of others and allow them to engage.

National Hand Washing Week 12/1-12/7

The sophomores in the MAHST Academy learned about infection control, and with their knowledge, they created some infographics about hand hygiene. Hand washing awareness week

Payden Michael lists the benefits of washing your hands properly. Payden also lists the four crucial hand washing steps that will keep your hands safe and clean.

Panagiota Benetatos lists important facts about the spread of germs and the effects of washing your hands. Panagiota recommends the appropriate times in which you should wash your hands, as well as how to wash them properly.

Shayla Gorman created an infographic about the importance of hand washing and the time that hand washing should be utilized. Shayla lists the steps on proper hand washing, as well as information about the spread of bacteria.

Skillsusa 2021

This Winter (2021) MAHST students from Apple Valley High School competed in events provided by SkillUSA. They did an excellent job representing the AVHS MAHST Academy. SkillsUSA did a great job in making competitions safer by having them online rather than in person due to COVID-19. SkillsUSA is a nonprofit national education association that works on preparing its members to world-class workers and leaders.

Serenity Delatorre

Serenity competed in the Job Skill Demo event this year. She enjoyed participating in Skills despite the competition being online. Her favorite part about Skills was informing the judges about the knowledge she had gained while preparing for the event.

Angie Woods

Angie competed in the Health Profession Portfolio event. Her favorite part was experiencing one of Skills' distinctive virtual competitions. Angie fancied the opportunity to participate in SkillsUSA's virtual event.

Sophia pederson

Sophia competed in the CPS Health event this year. She appreciated the opportunity that was given by SkillsUSA to participate through a virtual platform. Sophia admires the ability to advance into different levels within SkillsUSA, as well as the variety of events that are available.

Alana david

Alana competed in the Medical Terminology Test event. She enjoyed studying and learning about Medical Terminology. Alana thought that it was interesting to participate in Skills this year due to competitions being online. She believed it was a great opportunity.

Skyler Sandoval

Skyler competed in the Medical Terminology Test event. He enjoyed reviewing the terms he learned earlier in this school year. Skyler appreciated the opportunity to compete in Skills virtually.

Mazel Sia

Mazel competed in Health Occupations Professional Portfolio. She enjoyed competing in skills because it gave her a sense of normalcy during these abnormal times. Mazel's favorite part about Skills was the feeling of accomplishment after competing in Health Occupations Professional Portfolio.

National Technical Honors Society

Every year, students in CAMP and HOSA earn the opportunity to join the National Technical Honors Society (NTHS), because of their academic accomplishments. NTHS honors outstanding students by providing career development opportunities and scholarships. This 2020-2021 school, the National Technical Honors Society gained sixteen new members.

Fire Explorer Program

The Sophomores at AVHS had the opportunity to gain more information about the Fire Explorer program through the Apple Valley Fire Protection District. A huge thanks to Chief Peratt, Captain Clemmer, and FF/Paramedic Fratt for speaking to, and informing the Sophomores about the Fire Explorer program.

Crazy Socks for Down Syndrome Awareness

On March 21, Apple Valley High School wore crazy or mismatched socks to help spread awareness about Down Syndrome awareness day. Down Syndrome is very common and affects about 200,000 people a year within the US. As a community it is important to work together. AVHS and the MAHST Academy did a fantastic job on spreading awareness about Down Syndrome on social media (@avhshosa).
