2024 Preview

The Apple Valley High School golf team had a strong finish to the 2023 season, winning back-to-back Mojave River League titles and a respectable finish at CIF, Division 4.

The Sun Devils return four of their starting six players Brady Fonville (Jr.), Brody Earnest (So.), Carson Hamilton (Jr.), and Maddison Irvin (Jr.). They are joined by a talented group of players led by Sherman Cline (Sr.), Kaden Akins, and Trisha Patel (So.). Cline and Akins competed extensively at the varsity level last season and will be looking to contribute immediately. There are also some freshmen looking to add their names to the rotation with Emily Martinez, Kameron Patterson, and Blake Yon

The Sun Devils finished the 2023 season with a second consecutive MRL title, several top 3 finishes in tournament play, and a sixth-place showing at Sterling Hills Golf Club at the Division 4 CIF team final. Their success catapulted them to the number one seed in Division 2 in the upcoming 2024 season with a team handicap of 3.2.

As a team, the Sun Devils averaged 193 in 2023. They fired a season-low 183 against their league rival, Hesperia to help secure their 19th league championship.

Brady Fonville led the Sun Devils with a 36.9 scoring average and three top-10 finishes in tournament play while Brody Earnest posted a 37.8 scoring average with a couple of top-10 finishes.

The Sun Devils will need more of the same contributions to take another step forward this spring in Division 2.

The Sun Devils will open their 2024 season at Victoria Club against Riverside Poly on February 27. They will then travel to Pahrump, NV for the Pahrump Valley Invitational from February 29 to March 1.

The spring's schedule will take the Sun Devils to compete against some of the top schools in a difficult pre-season schedule. They will travel to Riverside Poly, Yucaipa, Xavier Prep, MLK, and ACE. All of these teams qualified for CIF in their respective divisions.
