ASB at Apple Valley High School has changed a great deal since 2004 when ASB expanded to encompass a classroom where the ASB students meet for class, business meetings, and projects. The office itself houses the Activities/Athletics’ Secretary, the ASB Bookkeeper, computer work stations for the ASB students, offices for the Activities/Athletics’ Director, and a student run store where spirit gear, yearbooks and snacks can be purchased.
The AVHS Early College Program allows AVHS students to take college-level coursework during their traditional high school day. It encompasses classes that students can use to complete graduation requirements while receiving college credits. All classes are offered on the AVHS campus during the traditional school day in a 5th/6th block and are completely free. No book or supply costs. Coyote Blue Program
We offer a select number of classes during the school day that are considered Cal State San Bernardino courses. Students in these classes will earn CSUSB credit as well as fulfill graduation requirements. Please contact your counselor for more details on this program.
Apple Valley High School has an extensive CTE program. When combined with ROP courses, the quantity and variety of offerings at AVHS surpasses those of any other school in the area. This pathway emphasizes the study of large, small, and specialty animals, providing students with a thorough understanding of essential veterinary practices. Students explore critical elements such as diet, genetics, habitat, and behavioral evaluation, gaining insights into the comprehensive care of various animal species. Instruction is delivered through classroom lectures and hands-on laboratory activities, which are integral for leadership development, career exploration, and the reinforcement of academic concepts. Students that successfully complete the Agriculture Mechanics Pathway will be able to properly use welding tools consistent with industry requirements. Students will be able to perform welding procedures to include inspecting, diagnosing correctly, and performing many types of welds, including, SMAW, MIG welding, TIG welding and computer operated plasma cutters. Participation in the National Students Organizations, FFA and SkillsUSA is an integral component for leadership development, career exploration and reinforcement of academic concepts. The Graphic Design Pathway will provide students with an understanding of printing and manufacturing processes and systems common to careers in the graphic arts and printing technology industries. Representative topics include the principles of design, color theory, graphic design layout, typography, image generation and file preparation, digital imaging, prepress preparation, printing, multimedia blending, business and entrepreneurship principles. Students can earn industry-recognized certifications, including Adobe Certified Professional certifications and up to seven college credits from Victor Valley College. Students in the pathway are members of the National Student Organization, SkillsUSA.

This three year precision machining pathway, AVEX, provides students with an understanding of the manufacturing process and systems common to careers in machine tool and materials forming industries. Students will use industry standard machine tools such as lathes, mills, and CNC machines to shape materials into precision parts. They will use their knowledge of materials and their skills with the tools to manufacture products that meet precise specifications. Students can earn a third year science credit and have the opportunity of taking a fourth year Engineering Development & Design course to expand their knowledge and skills in machining. The Sports Therapy Pathway prepares students for a career in sports injury prevention, treatment and rehabilitation, physical therapy or athletic training. This is a two year pathway that prepares students for success at post-secondary institutions or entry into the patient care industry. Students will learn about sports medicine, injury prevention and how to safely care for injured athletes by getting hands-on training. Students have the opportunity to earn college credits through Victor Valley College, and industry certifications. Students will participate in the National Student Organization, SkillsUSA.
Students in the Medical and Health Science Technology (MAHST) Academy in the Patient Care Pathway are given medical teaching and technology to improve their academic achievement, enhance their career opportunities and options. MAHST graduates will demonstrate industry-ready skills, attitudes, and behaviors that will enable them to enter the medical profession directly or to continue with post-secondary education. These students are enrolled as cohorts and taught by a core group of teachers. These teachers encourage students to use technology in their classes for note-taking, research, and activities. Each grade level year students are given cross-curricular projects and an opportunity for a variety of Work Based Learning activities. Students can earn industry-recognized certifications and receive credits from Victor Valley College. Students in the pathway participate in the National Student Organization, SkillsUSA. The MAHST academy was awarded the title: A Distinguished Academy in 2017.
The Spanish for Professionals Pathway at Apple Valley High School invites students to explore exciting career opportunities while becoming bilingual in Spanish and English. Open to all, this unique program combines language learning with hands-on experiences like internships, field trips, and cultural engagement. With supportive teachers, a dedicated counselor, and opportunities to earn an interpretation certificate at no cost, students join a welcoming community where they can earn college credit, build skills, and a bright future.
*CTE Adjacent- Spanish For Professionals is a 2 year pathway, resulting in a certification in becoming a Medical Spanish Interpreter, and taken in conjunction with our MAHST (Medical) Pathway.
The EMR course provides training in basic emergency care skills, including patient assessment, CPR, automated external defibrillation, use of definitive airway adjuncts, splinting, and control of bleeding. Students must complete EMR in order to enroll in the EMT program through VVC. The EKG Technician Course will academically and technically prepare individuals to accurately perform electrocardiograms (EKG) as a supportive diagnostic procedure. Basic arrhythmia recognition will be taught to enable the student to recognize familiar EKG patterns, including major life-threatening rhythms. The course will consist of theory and lab experience to promote competence. Upon successfully completing the program, the student should be prepared to pass the National EKG Certification Examination.
Construction Technology is a sequence of three courses. Students learn carpentry technology, use of measuring instruments, basic hand and power tools, blueprint reading, site preparation for concrete work, wood framing, basic plumbing and electrical installations, roofing, exterior and interior finishing (drywall hanging and taping), and safety and first aide procedures. The skills learned can be used for immediate entry-level work or additional training in apprenticeship programs or higher education in construction management programs. Students earn industry recognized certifications, such as OSHA, and credits from Victor Valley College. Students in this pathway will participate in the National Student Organization, SkillsUSA.
Computer Science (Software and Systems Development: Systems Programming) Pathway
AP Computer Science Principles introduces students to the breadth of the field of computer science. In this course, students will learn to design and evaluate solutions and apply computer science to solve problems through the development of algorithms and programs. AP Computer Science A is one of two AP Computer Science courses available to students. The AP Computer Science Principles course complements AP Computer Science A by teaching the foundational areas of the discipline. Students can take these two courses in either order or concurrently, as allowed by their school.
This pathway prepares students for careers in the field of web design. Students in the program will learn how to develop, create, and maintain professional websites for clients using current industry tools and emerging trends and technologies. This two-year pathway allows students to develop 21st-century skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, project management, and communication skills. At the completion of this pathway, students will graduate with a highly sought-after skill set, earn industry-recognized certifications and credit from Victor Valley College. Students in the pathway are members of the national student organization, SkillsUSA.
This two-year pathway is designed to equip students with fundamental skills in auto repair, focusing on diagnosing and repairing essential vehicle systems. Throughout the program, students engage in hands-on learning, working directly on the maintenance and repair of various automotive systems, including brakes, engines, and electrical components. In addition to practical experience, students have the chance to earn multiple industry-recognized certifications, such as ASE (Automotive Service Excellence), which enhance their employability and precision exams. They can also receive college credits from Victor Valley College, giving them a head start in post-secondary education. Furthermore, students participate SkillsUSA, a national organization that promotes leadership and technical skills, where they can compete in automotive repair competitions and develop professional connections.
In order to qualify for the Seal of Biliteracy, a student must complete 4 years of study or pass a valid exam in a language other than English. Students must maintain a 2.0 GPA in English and maintain a 3.0 in their language class.
French Program

In recent years the Apple Valley French program has moved on from the standard fill-in the test to Performance Based Assessments (PBA) which makes up a 50% of the grade. PBA don't just assess a students ability to memorize answers, it assess their abilities to read, write, speak, and comprehend French. Students will also engage in cultural exploration through Crafts, Video, Dance, Music etc.

Exclusive to Apple Valley High School, AP Spanish Literature is equivalent to a college level introductory survey course of literature written in Spanish. Students continue to develop their interpretive, interpersonal, and presentational skills in Spanish language as well as critical reading and analytical writing as they explore short stories, novels, plays, essays, and poetry from Spain, Latin America, and U.S. Hispanic authors along with other non-required texts. Students who take the AP class are not required to take the AP test but are highly encouraged. Students will also engage in cultural exploration through Crafts, Video, Dance, Music etc.
Apple Valley Unified School District provides a life-skills-based curriculum for individuals with severe disabilities ranging in age from 18 to 22 years old. The goal is to provide opportunities for students to learn how to live, work, and play in their community as adults. This program facilitates the transition from traditional school-age programs to adulthood
Our Specialized Academic Instruction classes allow students on Individualized Education Plans access to the general education program while providing accommodations.
Apple Valley High School supports the diverse academic and social emotional needs of all students, including those identified as having a disability and those who haven’t. In our co-teaching classes students are taught by two teachers. This allows for reduce student/teacher ratio, increase of instructional options, diversity of instructional styles, greater student engaged time and participation levels.
Visual Arts courses include Beginning and Advanced Ceramics, Beginning and Advanced Drawing and Painting, and Advanced Placement Studio Art. AP Studio Art was introduced to provide more challenging opportunities for this unique group of individuals. AP course offerings include: AP 3D Design, AP 2D Design, and AP Drawing. The curriculum of all Visual Arts courses is based on the “F” requirements of the A-G requirements as well as the California State Framework Content Standards for the Visual Arts.
The Drama Department at AVHS meets or exceeds theatre programs in most comprehensive high schools. The curriculum includes both Drama I, Advanced Drama classes, and Theatre Production classes, all of which satisfy F Requirement of the UC/CSU A-G Requirements. In the Theatre Production class you get to try out lighting, sound, costuming, makeup, and stage management. The program produces two major productions per year supported by the Sundevil Actors’ Guild.
In ceramics, students will be introduced to hand building techniques with clay. Emphasis will be placed on the elements of art; form, shape, line, texture and color. The focus will be on the hand building techniques; pinch, coil and slabs. Functional as well as sculptural applications will be explored.
Draw Paint is designed as an introductory course in which students will learn basic drawing and painting techniques building up to advanced. The course incorporates the California Content Standards for art and is focused on the study of the Elements of Art, Principles of Design, Color Theory, Art Literacy, Art Analysis, Enduring Understanding, Essential Questions, and Creative Expression. The goal is to prepare students for advanced and college level courses in which they creatively express their interpretation of the world around them with intent and purpose.

The VVC Bridge program is a program that supports our 12th grade students as they apply to VVC and complete all steps necessary to enroll at VVC as first-time freshman
The AVHS English Language Development (ELD) program provides a variety of supports to parents and students from homes that primarily speak another language other than English. A bilingual counselor, teacher, tutors, and classified staffing provide: placement testing, academic/ personal/ career counseling, ELD classes, and paraeducator tutoring to support students to transition successfully into core academic courses. The B-20 Family Center provides bilingual tutoring at lunch and after school as well as hosts ELAC meetings and educational workshops for parents.
Through planning the newspaper both in design and deadlines, Students will learn 21st century skills. Students will learn interview and writing skills.
