2025 Preview
After a series of successful seasons, the Apple Valley High School golf team is gearing up for another exciting year. The Sun Devils, who won back-to-back titles from 2022 to 2023, narrowly missed out on the championship in 2024. A paperwork issue unfortunately kept them from competing in the team CIF championship, adding to the disappointment. However, with the past season behind them, the Sun Devils are ready to use their veteran experience and new talent to reclaim their position at the top of the Mojave River League (MRL) golf ladder.
The Sun Devils are proud to welcome back four seniors to their starting lineup: Brady Fonville, Carson Hamilton, Kaden Akins, and Madison Irvin, along with Brody Earnest (Jr.). Last year, this formidable team achieved a 181-team total, breaking a 26-year-old record set in 1998. They secured second place at the Pahrump Valley Invitational, Silver Division Flight, second place at the Xiong/Hambright Invitational, second place at the Homer Thomas Classic, and fourth place at the Lynn McClung Memorial Golf Tournament. Their overall record was an impressive 13-4, with a 9-1 record in MRL play. Brady Fonville's victory at the MRL Finals and his second MRL MVP title in three years, along with Brody Earnest's All-MRL honors for the second consecutive year and his medalist win at the Homer Thomas Classic, are just a few of the team's many achievements. Carson Hamilton also earned All-MRL honors, adding to the team's impressive record.
As they gear up for the 2025 season, the team is focused on building on their past successes. Key players from last year's achievements are returning, with Trisha Patel (Jr.) and Kameron Patterson (So.) leading the charge. Both players have dedicated extensive time to practice on the range and the golf course this offseason, significantly improving their games. Their commitment to improvement is a testament to the team's dedication and will to win. Both players will be vying for the sixth spot in the rotation. Also returning from last season are Emily Martinez and Blake Yon, both sophomores who are ready to contribute to the team's success.
This year's team is further strengthened by a group of talented first-year players who are eager to make their mark. Landen Conway, Layla Lovato, Colt May, Boston Clark, and Sabastian Ramirez have all been selected for the team. They are the next generation of golfers who will carry on the winning tradition at AVHS. The freshmen will have ample opportunities to compete in a JV schedule, gaining valuable playing experience that will prepare them for future success.
The Sun Devils Golf team kicks off the season on Monday, February 27th, when they compete at the Spanish Hills Club Invitational in Camarillo, CA.
