Welcome to November Robles Families!
As the weather cools down the second quarter will fly by here at Robles. This month will bring us Veterans’ day and Thanksgiving break. We will also see more sweaters coming to school and a new book order for students’ free books. Remember to write your student’s name on the inside of their sweaters and jackets so that we can know where to return.
Our second order for the Scholastic's United States of Readers program happens this month. The flier is sent home and your student can choose 2 books. They will return the flier to their teacher, and will receive the new books right before winter break. Every student will get to pick 2 free books.
We have two special luncheons in November to look forward to. On November 10th, we will have our Veterans' Day Luncheon. Veteran’s from the community will be able to join us for lunch that day. Then on November 21st, we will have a Thanksgiving Luncheon, where family members can come have lunch with their students.
We love our community, and will be hosting another Family Fun Night at Robles on November 16th, from 5:30-7 p.m. We will be serving dinner to families at no cost. Of course the playground will be open along with many other fun activities like bouncing ball, kickball and so much more. We are proud to be your partner in education.
Sincerely,
Dustie Gunn-Ader

Hello Altar Valley Families!
We are so excited to share what our 2nd Grade Bobcats have been up to since the beginning of the school year. From the beginning, our students have been testing with State Benchmarks and have been putting a lot of effort into them; something that they are very new to, so we are very proud of them! Additionally, our focus since the beginning of 2nd grade is following the ROAR motto here at Robles which is to be respectful, open-minded, accountable, and responsible, which adheres to students being on their best behavior and being positive role models for our younger bobcats.
In Writing, students are being introduced to new spelling patterns that increase their knowledge of words that will overall improve their reading and writing skills. We also review spelling patterns from 1st grade to make sure they are up to the task of new 2nd grade spelling patterns. Additionally, 2nd graders are learning how to structure a complete sentence and the importance of the proper placement of a subject, noun, and punctuation.
In Reading, our main focus is the story structure, such as what are the characters, setting, and plot of a story; our students have been working hard on being able to identify these components and successfully describe them. In addition to story structure, our 2nd graders will also be able to summarize a story, compare and contrast, and use text and graphic features to describe parts of a story.
In Mathematics, students have been learning the place value and we are integrating the part-part whole strategy. We are using manipulatives to teach students how to understand certain math concepts in real-time.. In addition, we integrate technology with our instructions such as education.com, Zearn, IXL, etc. so they can enjoy answering the questions while learning.
Towards the end of the year our students will have a culminating project that will showcase what they have learned in 2nd grade and we are confident that they will be successful in showing all these major components we have learned so far! Each child has proven to have what it takes to learn regardless of different and new learning environments. We have bright stars in our Robles 2nd graders and we are extremely proud of them!
