A Year of Growth and Success at Robles Elementary
Dear Robles Bobcat Families,
As we approach the final stretch of the school year, I want to take a moment to celebrate the incredible achievements and growth we've witnessed throughout this academic year. It has been a year of tremendous progress, and I am thrilled to share that many grade levels have seen a remarkable 10% proficiency growth in their benchmarks. This is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our students, teachers, and supportive families like yours.
I would like to remind all parents to complete the registration process for the next school year through ParentVUE as soon as possible. Your timely registration ensures a smooth start to the new school year and helps us plan effectively.
We have several exciting events coming up in May:
May 12th at 9:30 AM – We are thrilled to invite you to the official Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for our brand-new Little Lending Library! Stop by and pick out a free book for your child to enjoy. We’re excited to promote reading in our community, and we’d love to see you there!
May 14th – Our Bobcats of Excellence Awards Assembly will honor students in grades 1 through 4 for their outstanding efforts and achievements.
May 19th – Kindergarten Promotion at 2:30 PM, and 5th Grade Promotion at 6:00 PM.
May 20th – Pre-Kindergarten Promotion at 9:30 AM.
May 21st – Last Day of School with early release at 1:45 PM.
We are also excited to offer our Summer STEM Program again this year! This is a great opportunity for students to stay engaged in hands-on learning during the summer months. Spots are limited, so be sure to sign up soon!
Finally, as we head into summer break, we encourage all students to keep their skills sharp by reading daily and practicing math facts regularly. A little practice each day can make a big difference when school starts again in the fall.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support. It has truly been a fantastic year at Robles Elementary, and we’re so proud of everything our Bobcats have accomplished.
Warm regards,

Exploring the Sonoran Desert: A Hands-On Animal Habitat Project
by Jackie Bauerelen, SAILS Program, Special Edcation PK-5
Ms. Jackie’s class has been deeply engaged in a cross-curricular project that has brought the wonders of the Sonoran Desert vividly to life. Recently, our students embarked on an exciting journey to explore the unique animals that thrive in this hot, arid environment. This project not only enriched their understanding of desert wildlife but also honed their skills across various subjects.
Each student took on the role of a wildlife expert, selecting a specific animal native to the Sonoran Desert. Through diligent research, they delved into the fascinating adaptations that enable these creatures to survive in such harsh conditions. From ingenious cooling mechanisms to specialized diets and clever sheltering strategies, students uncovered the secrets of their chosen animals.
For instance, the Gila monster's vibrant patterns serve as a bold warning to potential predators, while the desert tortoise's ability to spend most of its life underground protects it from the relentless desert sun. These discoveries not only captivated the students but also deepened their appreciation for the resilience and diversity of desert life.
Armed with newfound knowledge, the students embarked on the creative phase of the project. They translated their research into vibrant illustrations, skillfully capturing the unique features and habitats of their animals. These illustrations became the centerpiece of their final project: intricate dioramas that brought the Sonoran Desert to life within the classroom.
Each diorama was a masterpiece of creativity and scientific accuracy, featuring elements like towering saguaro cacti, rolling sandy landscapes, and meticulously crafted replicas of desert fauna. The attention to detail was impressive, with every student incorporating the specific adaptations and behaviors they had studied into their diorama designs.
Through this project, students not only sharpened their research and writing skills but also honed their artistic talents and deepened their scientific understanding. More importantly, they developed a profound respect for the resilience and adaptability of desert animals. This hands-on exploration not only fostered academic growth but also instilled a lasting curiosity and appreciation for the natural world.
As Ms. Jackie’s class proudly displayed their dioramas, it was clear that this project had sparked a sense of wonder and discovery among the students. They had not only become experts on Sonoran Desert wildlife but also stewards of its fragile ecosystem, eager to share their newfound knowledge with others. This project stands as a testament to the power of experiential learning and the boundless creativity of young minds when inspired by the natural world.
