Welcome the New Principal of Altar Valley Middle School for 2025-2026 School Year!
The Altar Valley School District is excited to introduce Mr. Riki Valdez as the new Principal of Altar Valley Middle School for the 2025-2026 school year. Mr. Valdez brings a wealth of experience in education and a deep commitment to fostering inclusive, student-centered learning environments.
Mr. Valdez most recently served as the Assistant Principal at Utterback Middle School, an AVID National Demonstration School in Tucson. During his tenure, he was instrumental in transforming school culture, improving academic performance, and leading initiatives that included the introduction of Esports and the implementation of a state-of-the-art STEM lab. His leadership helped raise the school’s letter grade from a D to a B—a testament to his strategic vision and dedication to student success.
Throughout his career, Mr. Valdez has served in various roles including CTE Department Chair, Dean of Students, and teacher, developing a well-rounded perspective on the needs of students, teachers, and school communities. He is known for his collaborative leadership style, effective use of data to drive decisions, and ability to build strong relationships with students, staff, and families.
Mr. Valdez holds a Master of Science in Educational Leadership from Western Governors University, a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Northern Arizona University, and an Associate of Arts in Business Management. His professional journey is also marked by extensive involvement in extracurricular programming, student support services, and faculty development.

Congratulations to Jerimiah, our Robles Student of the Month! He has demonstrated tremendous growth this school year, dedicating himself to meeting our ROAR expectations in every aspect of his school life. His hard work and perseverance have not gone unnoticed, as he consistently pushes himself to improve and be the best version of himself. Whether in the classroom, on the playground, or during group activities, Jerimiah leads by example, showing respect, accountability, and responsibility in all he does.
One of Jerimiah’s greatest strengths is his willingness to support and uplift those around him. He steps in to help classmates who are struggling, offering encouragement and guidance when they need it most. His positive attitude is contagious, and he motivates his peers by cheering them on and celebrating their successes. Additionally, Jerimiah understands the importance of being a role model for younger students, consistently demonstrating kindness, patience, and good sportsmanship—even when situations are challenging. His journey this year is a testament to his growth and dedication, and we are so proud of all he has accomplished. Keep up the amazing work, Jerimiah!

Each morning, she helps in the front office, ensuring a smooth start to the school day with her warm and welcoming presence. Her willingness to step in wherever needed makes her an invaluable part of our school community.
Laura plays a crucial role in the SAILs classroom, where she supports our special needs students with patience, kindness, and a deep commitment to their success. She works tirelessly to create a positive and nurturing environment, helping students develop their skills and confidence. Known as our “singing science teacher,” Julie brings energy, enthusiasm, and a love of learning into her classroom every day. Her commitment to engaging, hands-on lessons makes science come alive for her students, sparking curiosity and deeper understanding.
Julie sets high expectations for both herself and her students, consistently pushing for excellence while maintaining a supportive and encouraging environment. Nary a discouraging word is ever muttered—instead, she fosters positivity and resilience, inspiring students to tackle challenges with confidence.
