5th Grade Moving to Robles Elementary

March 11, 2021

Dear Altar Valley Families,

At the March 10 Altar Valley School District (AVSD) Governing Board meeting, the AVSD Governing Board unanimously approved moving 5th grade to Robles Elementary. This move will occur beginning in the 2021-2022 School Year. There were a number of factors considered when making this decision, among the most important of which is the ability to more effectively align the K-5 curriculum and to provide enhanced K-5 teacher collaboration and professional development. This move additionally will allow us to better meet the needs of our middle school students. We believe this move is in the best interest of all of our students and will enhance their learning and success.

Please contact your child’s school for more information.

Altar Valley School District will Return to Daily, In-person Learning

March 11, 2021

Dear Altar Valley Families,

As a result of Executive Order (EO) 2021-04 recently issued by Governor Ducey and the guidance provided by the Arizona Department of Education on the implementation of EO 2021-04, Altar Valley School District (AVSD) will return to daily, in-person learning for all interested families starting Monday, March 29, 2021. AVSD will continue to offer a remote learning option for those families not ready to return to in-person learning.

AVSD will continue with our mitigation plan that includes:

  • Mask wearing

  • Frequent handwashing (we have added handwashing and sanitizing stations)

  • Physical distancing of 6 feet where possible

  • Continuing of cohort grouping

  • Custodial staff on campus to perform cleaning in addition to regular deep cleaning each day

All students currently participating in the hybrid learning model should plan to return to daily, in-person learning starting Monday March 29, 2021. All current, full-time, remote students who would like to return to in-person learning should contact their child’s teachers by Wednesday, March 24 to update their learning option.

As a reminder:

  • Please follow the Center for Disease Control’s recommended practices to avoid the spread of COVID when not in school by avoiding group activities, wearing a mask, physical distancing, and washing hands.

  • Do not send your children to school if they are sick with any of the following symptoms: sore throat, cough, headache, fever, stomach problems, loss of taste or smell. Do not send children to school if they are awaiting results of a COVID test or if they are quarantining due to a COVID exposure.

Working together we can continue to offer a safe learning environment in AVSD schools as we return to full-time, in-person learning. Please contact the principal of your child’s school or me at ddumon@avsd.org with questions.
