John has been an AVP facilitator since 1990 and was on the organizing team for AVP USA and AVP International. He started AVP programs in Delaware, North Carolina, South Carolina and helped restart AVP in New Jersey. He has led workshops in Southern and West Africa, Middle East and Eastern Europe and led international conflict resolution delegations to China, Russia and South Africa. In 1992, because of the success of AVP in Delaware prisons, he was asked to train corrections staff, which he has done over the past 31 years in 7 states and in Russia, Kenya (police) and South Africa. He has been published widely in corrections professional magazines and in 2023 compiled those articles into a book, published under the title, “Mid-21st Century Criminal Justice: Transforming Work Culture." Because of his background as a mental health therapist with a special interest in trauma and trauma healing, his publications often refer to the neuroscience of change, specifically how AVP changes attitudes and lives.

I plan to contribute to AVP USA my leadership and skills to improve and expand AVP’s influence to better our world and fellow human beings, especially in relationship to trauma resilience and coping skills to help others live better lives for themselves and those around them. I have been involved with AVP, since 2008 as an inside facilitator, a member of AVP/Nebraska. Once paroled in April 2021 I became an AVP USA Peace Fellow from September 2021 to June 2022, when I became AVP USA’s Treasurer. During my time with AVP USA I have led the creation of the AVP USA Media Kit as a Peace Fellow, the Skillsoft learning program as a member of the Board of Directors for AVP USA and been actively involved in the AVP USA finance committee.
