Transformation Through Bold Engagement
Transformation Through Bold Engagement
We will take a look at how these elements are addressed in the New Basic Manual and how we might explore them deeper in the creation of the AVP Advanced Manual. We will share how experiences about justice issues have come up in our workshops and then share strategies that facilitators have used to respond. Nonviolence and standing up for justice, responding to trauma - how to in a workshop and how to in the basic.
The Ego Game is a newly developed AVP exercise designed to raise consciousness of one's true self as a Spirit and one's Ego as a false self that needs to be defended. We are asking for your participation and feedback.
Florida youth facilitators sitting on a panel explaining their views and outlook on how AVP has impacted their lives. Along with how AVP sometimes feel like being in school and makes them not want to participate. Our facilitators have put together their own workshop that fits them without leaving out the core values of AVP. An Q&A session from anyone looking on.
This will focus on being more inclusive towards the LGBTQ+ community within AVP.
Bullying is always an issue when working with school age children. In this session we will share strategies we have used to address the violence of bullying as well as stories and exercises we have found useful on this topic. Please bring any agendas, materials, or exercises you have developed on this topic.

Practicing, exploring, and role playing skillful speech in small groups (non-harming, timely, effective)
After offering a brief description of Adaptations, we will co-create our agenda on the fly, fueled in the moment by individual passion or aspects of pre-existing Adaptations...
As facilitators of AVP we know you don’t just become non-violent one day, you have to actively be using your transforming power to change a specific situation or an overall ethos of living. Similarly, white facilitators need to be grappling with how white supremacy and racism has been part of the development of our own identities. Denying or ignoring, no matter how good our intentions, can lead to harm individually and systematically. AVP-USA has been working at the local level and at the National level for some time on addressing past harm and how to transform moving forward. Join us for an hour and half interactive conversation on white savior complex, a part of the life long journey of unlearning. White fragility maintains the white savior complex by emphasizing white individuals’ emotional desires for comfort over the harm done to Brown and Black individuals. In AVP, how does our power and privilege play a role in how we define ourselves and experiences in AVP? And how does identities like, aspiring allies for altruism, create harm? This session could be the start of a conversation for you or a continuation of work you have already been doing. We hope you join us!

Participants will be offered an experience with reflection exercises that can be incorporated into workshops. This session is in memoriam of AVP facilitator Nancy Shippen and Buddhist monk Thich Nhat Hanh who both passed on January 22, 2022, and who both promoted and taught meditation.
Sharing concepts of how to embed self-care into the systems and processes of facilitating workshops.
In most Transforming Power talks we tell Transforming Power stories and talk ABOUT Transforming Power. In this breakout session the participants will EXPERIENCE transforming themselves. This exercise is about spiritual growth and experiencing personal transformation.
"Trees of Life" a 2 ½ hour trauma-sensitive mini-workshop (spanning two break-out sessions?) that helps adult and youth participants identify and honor their inner strengths, interpersonal relationships, and commitment to community. (Part 2 is on Monday, 9:30 am.)
This session will take everyone on a tour of the section in the new AVP Basic Manual that guides the agenda crafting process. We will practice using the new manual and the red and blue libraries to create future agendas.
AVP has been around for decades and the brain science to back its importance is starting to become more dominant in K-12 schools across the country. The nationwide push for Social Emotional Learning in schools is underway and AVP can both inform and learn from this new practice in curriculum and instruction. This breakout session will explore the fundamentals of Educational Neuroscience and relate these topics to current AVP practices and exercises.
People who have experience in team coordinating/lead facilitator work and mentoring, as well as those interested in gaining skills in this area, will have an open discussion. They will share about their experiences during the pandemic's making in-person meetings impossible. They will look forward to organizing and presenting in-person workshops. Current methods of record-keeping will be shared, along with any training requirements in this area. This proposed breakout session will elicit participants for an online workshop which the California Special Teams Liaison group, to be held in summer 2022. The team envisions that Lead Facilitators from all over the country might want to get together for this workshop to share best practices in this vital area of our AVP work.
To give participants a taste of AVP in the community, online or in prison and answer questions about how to get involved in AVP. This will be interactive and informative.

the Affinity Healing Space is for people of color who face oppression, discrimination, and racism to be uplifted, affirmed, and empowered to keep going towards building tranformative power in their communities through AVP. This session will provide dialogue and affirmations to BIPOC affinity groups navigating racism to increase transformative resilience.
A few local union representatives (along with AVPers) will participate in the discussion, while others listen and have an opportunity to ask questions at the end. The discussion will be about the importance of union members having the skills to mitigate/resolve interpersonal conflicts in order to maintain the integrity, cohesion, and strength of the union, which benefits all.
Developing personal TP stories, making your TP presentation more experiential. Use the New Basic Manual to build your next TP session and explore new ways to present TP that are interactive.
Diversity and reaching new populations, Motivation / Mentorship, African traditional rites of passage (boys to men)
Adaptations are innovative programs based on AVP workshops created by AVP-trained facilitators on a variety of topics and offered to audiences outside of AVP. Examples include: mental health and addiction recovery, family circles, cultures of peace, veterans, and anti-racism efforts. If you have a passion project, it may be (or could become) an Adaptation of AVP. Join us to learn more.
There's always something exciting happening at AVP International and with AVP around the world. Using a Q&A format, we look forward to answering your questions and hearing your ideas and suggestions for AVP International.
The new Basic Manual is ready to be reviewed in final text form. How will the new manual be structured? What has been changed to build an even better workshop experience? This table will walk you through the new chapter format and explore some of the ways the new manual will be different from the old one.
Come join Adventurous Alisha and the Peace Fellows to hear about the Peace Fellows Program for the 2022-2023. AVP-USA Peace Fellowship is an opportunity for 4-6 AVP Facilitators interested in working to gain new experiences with AVP-USA. and and an opportunity to participate with AVP-USA on the national level. The fellows will work towards a project together to further the AVP Mission and values.
This is a major concept to be highlighted in the new Basic Manual. It is important to understand the flow and progression of activities within each session and how they build self-efficacy and community. The Road Map shows this progression and helps us to identify when each step along the way is achieved. If not, we are instructed about how to stop, and go back to affirmation or building and restoring community before moving forward with the workshop.
Yes! But not for a while. This table will gather feedback about what you would like to have included in the advanced manual. We are considering areas of: stereotyping and oppression, developing a mindset in consensus decision making. What do you think should be included? What do you understand as the purpose of an AVP Advanced workshop? What would make a better lay-out for you?
CLARG supports existing and emerging local groups, and is responsible for empowering and nurturing existing and emerging local AVP groups. We know local groups are in different stages in adapting to the pandemic, many have had to switch up their approach or have been out of their normal element for some time. AVP-USA has grants for your local group! We want to be YOUR partner in continuing to transform through the pandemic.
Come join us at the world cafe to learn what CLARG does and how we can best support you! Contact us at CLARG@avpusa.com | https://avpusa.org/committees/
Moving from a competitive environment to a more cooperative environment. In the new manual we are trying to move exercises such as Broken Squares and Crocodiles and Frogs from a place where we compete to be best or fastest, to a model that brings everyone to a better outcome. At this table we will share experiences with competition vs cooperation, and we will discuss ways to bring our activities to a more inclusive and community building outcome. On the other hand, we want your feedback about what this could mean regarding your favorite Light and Lively, for example. Which one/s would you NOT want to eliminate despite its “competitive” interactions?
