Here are a couple of fun videos for you to enjoy:
Music is a universal language and a wonderful form of creative expression. People, who learn to play a musical instrument while they are young, learn valuable lessons on teamwork, self-discipline, self-confidence, reasoning, etc. These lessons and more will carry over to other facets of a person’s life. Most importantly, the study of music allows one to gain a greater appreciation for the world and its many cultures.
Students who choose to study an instrument will be given free weekly lessons during school hours; however, they must acquire their own instruments, accessories and lesson books. Special arrangements can be made for students with financial need.
A note to both parents and students: Making music is a fun and rewarding experience, but it does require work and a commitment from the musician. Most importantly, learning to play an instrument well takes time and patience.
Students who enroll in band class may learn to play any of the following instruments:
Flute
Alto Saxophone
Trombone
Oboe
Trumpet/Cornet
Baritone Horn
Clarinet
French Horn
Percussion*
*Beginners who wish to study percussion must be aware that the first year of study, regardless of grade (5th or 6th) or prior experience, will focus solely on keyboard percussion, “mallets” - (bells, xylophone etc.)
To register, please submit the online registration form (found on the home page) by noon on Friday, September 6, 2024. Please read all the information in the registration packet carefully. Lessons will begin the week of September 9, 2024.
TBS band students participate in a number of great musical events throughout the school year. In order to maintain our tradition of high standards in performance and etiquette, I am asking that all TBS band members be committed to a strong work ethic and act responsibly.
Students should never miss a lesson or a rehearsal, except for illness or other valid excuse. Whenever possible, the music teacher should be informed ahead of time so that a make-up session can be arranged.
If a child forgets his/her instrument or is unable to play for any other reason he/she is still required to attend lessons/ensemble rehearsals.
1 - Unexcused absence from a lesson or rehearsal → Verbal Warning
2 - Unexcused absences from lessons / rehearsals → Phone Call to Parents
3 - Unexcused absences from lessons / rehearsals → Meeting with Student and Parent(s) to re-evaluate participation in the program.
**Attendance is expected at all concerts. These are the culminating events that we work hard for all year! Exceptions will be made for illness and family emergency.
Band concert dress:
Boys: black shirt, black dress pants, black socks, black dress shoes/sneakers.
Girls: black blouse, black pants or long black skirt to the ankles (no short skirts), and dress shoes/sneakers.
