About Mrs. Bowman
Creative Drama Grades 1-5
Mrs. Bowman has been acting out stories for as long as she can remember. Some of her favorite school memories were presenting stories like Paddington and The Elves and the Shoemaker under the direction of her classroom teachers. At home, Mrs. Bowman and her sisters would stage productions of the Wizard of Oz, The Wiz, Les Miserables or engage in hours of pretend play.
After studying English and Theatre at DePaul University, Mrs. Bowman worked for Creative Directions, an arts education organization, providing teacher professional development and classroom residencies in drama teaching and arts integration throughout Illinois. This experience led her to pursue a Masters in Elementary Education from the University of Illinois at Chicago and her first teaching job in Chicago Public Schools.
Mrs. Bowman created the Drama program at Avoca West in 2015 and is grateful to do what she loves every day. Her goal is to encourage students to trust their imaginations, take risks, support each other, stretch their thinking, and develop a love for Drama/Theater.
Mrs. Bowman also co-sponsor's the Assembly Ensemble which creates devised performances around school themes 4 times each year for our Spirit Assemblies.
