Higher level questions encourage students to think critically and more deeply. Higher order questions do not have simple, factual answers. They are open-ended and encourage evaluation and analysis. For example, "How many phases does the moon have in a month?" is a lower level question. It asks students to provide straight-forward factual recall. On the other hand, "How might colonizing the moon impact life on Earth?" is a higher level question. It asks students to think beyond their immediate knowledge and experience. Basically, higher level questions do not have answers that are easily found on Google.
