Our program and schedule work hand-in-hand to create conditions for flexible, interdisciplinary study throughout the year, putting student-centered and student-driven activities and curriculum at the forefront of our program. In order to accomplish this, we hold sacred the “interdisciplinary project block”, which is composed of English, Science, World Course, and Art & Design curriculum and faculty. In addition, students study Mathematics, Portuguese, Wellness and Movement, High-Intensity Practice - an Avenues program that targets thinking skills and executive function - and electives across a range of subjects.
Flexibility is the key to a dynamic learning experience, and so our schedule is designed to provide the most flexibility possible while providing sufficient structure for students and teachers to be successful and supported in their work. Sample schedules for various grades can be found in the links provided.
The schedule in grades 6-9 is a full year schedule, with the interdisciplinary project block forming half of the student school day, and the remaining courses alternating by day, or - in the case of our current pandemic precautions - by week.
In grade 10 and 11, this interdisciplinary project block happens throughout the year, with semester-long programs in Math, Portuguese, and Electives providing students sufficient choice to curate their schedules toward their future interests.
In grade 12, our Senior Seminar course is a capstone interdisciplinary elective which students choose based on interest - Science & Engineering, Entrepreneurship, Artists Studio, or Communications. In their first semester, students complete the requisite Math and Brazilian studies courses so that their second semester can be entirely electives-based and provides space for internships, independent projects, and additional work outside the walls of the school.
