What is an intervention? Merriam-Webster defines intervention: The act or fact of taking action about something in order to have an effect on its outcome. In respects to a person experiencing a Substance Use Disorder (SUD as defined in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual-DSM 5) is an attempt orchestrated by one or many people concerned or effected by an individual's substance use to seek professional help with their addiction. Not all addictions are by substance which gives room for denial by the addict and the closest people around them. As this begins to tear the family unit apart, an intervention may be necessary to assist in getting the help that is needed and support for all who are involved.
