Akins High School Academies
ABL2E prepares students for careers involving persuasion, military leadership, criminal justice, and court procedures. This academy enables a diverse community of learners to explore business and professional opportunities and build partnerships using community resources.
Students in this academy have the opportunity to explore career interests in Veterinary Medicine, Floral Design and Horticulture Science. GTA provides rigorous classroom instruction through an aligned sequence of courses and provides students with real-world experiences through internships and partnerships with various companies and local government agencies.
New Tech students take their core courses just like all Akins students. For electives, student are allowed to take courses toward a career pathway of their choosing. This is where the real magic happens! In New Tech, students are allowed to choose from these eight career pathways:

The W. Charles Akins STEM Academy provides authentic, real-world experience in an environment where students develop and demonstrate 21st-century skills in the ever-evolving fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. STEM students take ownership of and apply their learning, both individually and collaboratively, and become successful leaders as evidenced in scholarly pursuits and industry endeavors.
The Social Services Academy (SSA) creates a community where students have first-hand experiences that broaden their understanding of the skills and knowledge essential to careers serving society in healthcare, education, mental health, and social work. Certifications include Medical Assistant, Pharmacy Tech, Patient Care Tech, AISD Substitute and Para-educator certifications. Our teachers support caring students who, in an effort to better society, learn to empathize with the needs of an individual and a diverse global community. We prepare students for college and careers in the growing fields of Health Science, Education, and Human Services.
We have PTECH (Pathways in Technology Early College High School) and one pathway in General Studies. All focus on getting students ahead in taking college courses through ACC.
