ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS AND READING
Grade: 7
Seventh grade students refine and master previously learned knowledge and skills in increasingly complex situations. Students read a variety of classic and contemporary selections (fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and drama). Students deepen reading comprehension through literary and informational analysis, vocabulary study, and class discussions. Students select appropriate forms of writing to communicate ideas and information to specific audiences for specific purposes. Students revise and edit writing for clarity and correct use of conventions to produce final, error-free pieces on a regular basis.

MATH
Grade: 7
The primary focal points of seventh grade math are all mathematical operations with positive and negative rational numbers; solving multi-step equations and inequalities; bridging two - and three-dimensional geometry; representation and application of proportionality, probability, statistical analysis; and personal financial literacy. Students explore and apply these concepts using problem solving models, tools, and technology, multiple representations, communication and justification of ideas.
ACCELERATED MATH
Grade: 7
Prerequisite: Accelerated Math 6 or attended Math AVID Summer Bridge
Acceleration and in-depth study of mathematical concepts for the remaining 7th grade math TEKS and all 8th grade math TEKS. Success in this course requires a high level of commitment and responsibility. The increased rigor of these courses provides challenge and deep understanding for students who have shown a need for enrichment and acceleration. Students take the 8th grade STAAR state assessment.

SCIENCE
Grade: 7TH/ ADVANCED
In grades 6 through 8 science, content is organized into recurring strands. The concepts within each grade level build on prior knowledge, prepare students for the next grade level, and establish a foundation for high school courses. In grade 7, the following concepts will be addressed in each strand. The strands are scientific and engineering practices, matter and energy, force, motion and energy, earth and space, and organisms and environments. The student, for at least 40% of instructional time, asks questions, identifies problems, and plans and safely conducts classroom, laboratory, and field investigations to answer questions, explain phenomena, or design solutions using appropriate tools and models.

SOCIAL STUDIES -- TEXAS HISTORY
Grade: 7TH/ADVANCED
The focus of 7th grade Social Studies is Texas history, studying the history of Texas from early times to the present. The course includes the study of the regions of Texas, local and state government, the rich cultural background of the state, and the impact of scientific discoveries and technological innovations on life in the modern world. Students will use critical thinking skills to analyze historical documents relating to the geographic, economic, governmental, cultural, and technological factors influencing the growth and development of Texas.
SOCIAL STUDIES DUAL LANGUAGE --TEXAS HISTORY
Grade: 7TH/ADVANCED
Prerequisite: Participation in a Dual Language Program and/or Spanish proficiency.

This course is designed for students participating in the dual language program and is taught in Spanish.

7th GRADE PE
Grade: 7
Students in 7th Grade Physical Education will learn to care for their personal health by studying basic health information such as hands-only CPR, hygiene, nutrition, substance abuse, stress management, self-esteem, body image, conflict resolution, sportsmanship, sleep, rest and time management while participating in bowling, Ultimate, circuit training, Floorball, disc golf, and softball. The goal of 7th Grade PE is to provide students with exposure to a variety of individual sport-related physical activities to better prepare them for a physically active lifestyle. This course covers most of the seventh-grade PE TEKS and most of the seventh/eighth-grade health education TEKS.
DANCE WELLNESS 2
Grade: 7
Prerequisite: Must be a seventh-grade student and have taken Dance 1 or Dance Wellness 1 or Functional Dance.
Dance Wellness 2 is designed for students to demonstrate, create, and evaluate dance movement elements associated with the elements of dance, ballet, jazz, modern, hip hop, tap, and choreographic processes in cooperative groups or individually. Students will learn to care for their personal health by studying basic health information such as hands-only CPR, hygiene, nutrition, substance abuse, stress management, self esteem, body image, conflict resolution, sportsmanship, sleep, rest and time management. Students may have the opportunity to perform in a public performance setting. Out-of-school rehearsals and performances may be required
ATHLETICS COURSES
Grade: 7-8
Prerequisite: Approval by the athletic coach
Students will participate in athletic activities during this class, which can be substituted for a physical education credit.
