OHMS Mustang Band

The O. Henry Middle School Band has a proud tradition of excellence that dates back to 1953. The program consistently earns the UIL (University Interscholastic League) Sweepstakes Trophy, achieving first divisions in both Concert and Sightreading categories. The O. Henry Band is open to all students in grades 6 through 8.

We offer three performing ensembles: Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and Beginning Band. The Beginning Band is divided into three sections: Woodwinds, Brass, and Percussion. All three ensembles regularly present public performances, and students have the opportunity to attend several field trips throughout the school year.

Meet The Director

I grew up in Tyler, Texas, also known as "The Rose Capitol of America." I earned my undergraduate degree in Music Education from the University of Texas, where I was a member of various ensembles, including the Longhorn Band, Symphony Band, Wind Ensemble, and Tuba/Euphonium Ensemble. I have been teaching for 30 years, all within Austin Independent School District (AISD). I am incredibly excited to start my 21st year of teaching at O. Henry Middle School!

When I'm not teaching, I enjoy spending quality time with my son, Christian. My hobbies include biking, taking my Siberian Husky, June, on long walks, cheering for UT Longhorn athletics, sampling delicious Texas BBQ, working on cars, listening to live music, and spending time with family and friends.
