Chromebook Distribution

  • Q: I need a hotspot. How do I get one?

    • A: The best way to ensure you get a chromebook and hotspot is to respond to the Technology Distribution survey (my.austinisd.org). You will be notified through email when your hotspot is ready to be picked up from O Henry MS.

  • Q: I need a Chromebook. How do I get one?

    • A: O Henry MS has Chromebooks available to check out to any student still needing a device. Contact Angelica in the OHMS Office at angelica.tagle@austinisd.org or 512-414-3229 to set up a time to pick one up!

  • Q: My Chromebook is broken. What do I do?

    • A: You may bring the Chromebook to O Henry MS to exchange it for a replacement device. However, you need to contact the OHMS Office FIRST to ensure there is another device ready for you when you arrive. We do not have staff attending to student Chromebooks at all times.

    • OR, check the dropdown below for an option to dropoff at a different location

Chromebook Repairs

My Chromebook is not working, how do I get it repaired?

Austin ISD Computer Repairs for Student and Staff

Over the summer, families may drop off non-working Austin ISD Chromebooks at the following locations, Monday-Thursday, 9:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m.:

  • The AISD Performing Arts Center (1500 Barbara Jordan Blvd; enter garage from east; exit only to Mueller)

  • Crockett ECHS, 5601 Manchaca Road

Families will drive through, safely leave their broken Chromebook, and receive a working device. Families can also get replacement chargers. Note: This is not a help desk, and no repairs will be done while you wait. Students do not have to be present. Students will receive a replacement device that might be different from the one they had. Students whose devices are working but who need technical support should call the student help desk at 512-414-4357.

Visit bit.ly/aisdcomputerwait for service changes and approximate wait times at each location.

Austin ISD staff can also return computers and drop them off for repairs at these locations.

Families Must Bring:

  1. Your Chromebook

  2. Your charger (if you have one)

  3. A piece of paper with:

    • The student's full legal name

    • The student's ID number

    • A description of the problem "won't turn on," "cracked screen," etc.

How to Zoom

Zoom: Creating a Zoom Account and Attending a Virtual Zoom Meeting

A Video of this process is available at: https://vimeo.com/399249302

These steps will take you through the sign up and into attending your first meeting.

Create Your Zoom Account

  1. Go to http://zoom.us/ and click Sign Up, It’s Free.

  2. Remember, Students do NOT need a Zoom account to join a teacher meeting. Click Join Meeting, type the Meeting ID from teacher and teacher’s password.

  3. Scroll down the page and click on Sign in with Google. You will have to authenticate your account through the AISD Portal and confirm that you are using your AISD email with your Google account.

Accessing BLEND

  1. Go to portal.austinisd.org and click on the BLEND tile.

    • It is also good practice to open Google Drive and leave it in an open tab in the background. This helps ensure you are accessing documents and websites with your school email account instead of a personal email.

  2. Not sure how to find assignments or submit them? Check out Mr. Borders' YouTube Channel for tutorials about BLEND.

  3. Unable to access Google Drive assignments ("You are not authorized...")- You may have signed in with a personal Gmail at some point.

  4. PARENT SET UP WALKTHROUGHS FOR BLEND

    • These links take parents to short screencasts demonstrating what BLEND looks like from the parent "observer" view.
