David Hinojosa - Director of Bands

David Hinojosa has been teaching at Kealing Middle School since 2012 and has served as Director of Bands since 2017. Mr. Hinojosa is a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin where he earned a Bachelors Degree in Music Studies. While at The University of Texas, Mr. Hinojosa studied tuba with Steven Bryant and performed with The University of Texas Wind Ensemble, Wind Symphony, Symphony Band, University Orchestra and Longhorn Band. At UT, he was fortunate enough to have studied instrumental conducting with Dr. Damon Talley, Dr. Scott Hanna, Professor Glen Richter and Professor Gerhardt Zimmermann.

Mr. Hinojosa currently teaches beginner low brass and percussion and conducts the Wind Ensemble and Jazz Band. Mr. Hinojosa’s professional affiliations include the Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, and Mu Phi Epsilon.

Michelle DeVall - Assistant Director

Michelle DeVall has been teaching at Kealing Middle School since 2017. She currently teaches the Symphonic Band, Beginning Flute/Double Reeds, Beginning Clarinet, and Beginning Trumpet/Horn classes. She also co-teaches Concert Band alongside Mr. Hinojosa. Under her direction, the Symphonic Band has earned top ratings at the University Interscholastic League (UIL) Concert and Sight-Reading Evaluations.

Prior to teaching at Kealing, Mrs. DeVall taught band in Del Valle ISD and in Lee County (Florida). She is currently serving as the National Association for Music Education-Texas (NAfME-Texas) Advocacy Chair and as the Texas state representative on the NAfME Advocacy Leadership Force.

Mrs. DeVall is a National Board Certified Teacher who received a Master of Music and Human Learning Degree from the University of Texas at Austin and a Bachelor of Music Education degree from the Florida State University. She holds professional memberships in the National Association for Music Education, Texas Bandmasters Association, and Texas Music Educators Association.
