David Hinojosa - Director of Bands

David Hinojosa has been teaching at Kealing Middle School since 2012 and has served as Director of Bands since 2017. Mr. Hinojosa is a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin where he earned a Bachelors Degree in Music Studies. During his tenure at Kealing, the kealing band program has consistently earned Sweepstakes at UIL Concert and Sight Reading Evaluations and performance and top honors at festival across the state. The band program has also grown under his leadership and continues to be a safe space for all students.

Mr. Hinojosa currently teaches beginner low brass and saxophone, and conducts the Wind Ensemble and Jazz Band. During his spare time, Mr. Hinojosa enjoys working on cars, spending time outdoors camping/overlanding, playing floorball and disc golf, and spending time with his cat, Winston.

Mr. Hinojosa's professional affiliations include the Texas Bandmasters Association and Texas Music Educators Association.

Michelle DeVall - Assistant Director

Michelle DeVall has been teaching at Kealing Middle School since 2017. She currently teaches the Symphonic Band, Beginning Double Reeds, Beginning Trumpet, and Beginning Horn classes. She also co-teaches Concert Band alongside Mr. Hinojosa. Under her direction, the Symphonic Band has earned top ratings at University Interscholastic League (UIL) Concert and Sight-Reading Evaluations. 

Prior to teaching at Kealing, Mrs. DeVall taught band in Del Valle ISD and in Lee County (Florida). She is currently serving as the National Association for Music Education-Texas (NAfME-Texas) Advocacy Chair, as the Texas state representative on the NAfME Advocacy Leadership Force (ALF), and as Austin ISD's Middle School Band Facilitator

Mrs. DeVall is a National Board Certified Teacher who received a Master of Music and Human Learning Degree from the University of Texas at Austin and a Bachelor of Music Education degree from the Florida State University. She holds professional memberships in the National Association for Music Education, Texas Bandmasters Association, and Texas Music Educators Association.

Brant Shettron - Assistant Director

Mr. Shettron is beginning his first year as a teacher at Kealing Middle School. He teaches the Beginning Percussion, Beginning Flute, and Beginning Clarinet classes. Additionally, Mr. Shettron is teaching choir classes at Kealing. 

Mr. Shettron is a graduate of Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado, where he studied Music Education and Percussion Performance. During his time at CSU, he studied percussion under Dr. Eric Hollenbeck, as well as performing in the Wind Ensemble under Dr. Rebecca Phillips. He was privileged enough to perform with the CSU percussion ensemble  at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention in Indianapolis. Additional ensembles Mr. Shettron has performed with include the CSU "Rampage" Basketball Band, the CSU Marching Band, CSU symphonic band, and many other local groups across Fort Collins and the state of Colorado.
