FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS FROM PARENTS NEW TO BLAZIER
Q: What is the first and last day of school for the 2020/2021 school year.
A: The first day of school for 2020/2021 is August 18th. The last day of school will fall on May 26th.
Q: When will I find out which teacher has been assigned to my child?
A: Due to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) law, we no longer post class lists. Teachers will email or call parents by Friday, August 14th to introduce themselves and welcome students to the new year. Student classroom placements will not be changed during the first two weeks of school.
Q: What is the earliest time I can drop off my child on school mornings?
A: The Blazier front doors open at 7:00 a.m. There is no supervision for students who arrive prior to 7:00 a.m.
Q: Can my child eat breakfast at school?
A: Yes, breakfast is available for those children who arrive between 7:05 and 7:35 a.m. All students at Blazier receive free breakfast and lunch.
Q: What time does my child need to be at school every day, and when does school dismiss?
A: We strongly recommend students be at Blazier by 7:30 to participate in the school-wide morning assembly held in the cafeteria. Teachers begin leading students to classrooms bat 7:35. Children need to be enter the building no later than 7:45 a.m., or they will be counted tardy. School dismissal time is 2:57 p.m.
Q: If I am picking up my child at dismissal, where is the best place to meet them?
A: There are two options available to parents with regards to meeting their children. One option, for those parents of students wishing to stay in their vehicles, is to use the front driveway. Parents using the front driveway will be issued a paper card, color coded by grade level, containing the student’s first name and last initial. This card is to be placed on the passenger-side dashboard of your vehicle during dismissal. As you pull through the driveway, your child’s name will be called out by the driveway coordinator. Once called, a teacher will walk your child to your vehicle.
The other option, for parents who choose to park legally and walk up to the building, you will form a line next to the Kindergarten students, a teacher will get your student once all Kindergarteners have been seated.
Q: What should I do if my child is going home a different way than usual?
A: Please send a note with your child informing the teacher of the change. We will not send a child home a different way without first hearing from the parent. Your child can only be released to another individual listed on the student record or by written permission from the parent. Teachers often may not be able to check email or voicemail messages before dismissal, so it’s best to plan ahead. If you have a last minute dismissal change, please inform the office by 2:00 pm, and they will relay the message to the teacher.
Q: What do I need to know about lunch?
A: Lunch menus go home at the beginning of each month and are also posted on the Austin ISD website, www.austinisd.org/nutritionfoodservices. All students at Blazier qualify to receive lunch at no charge.

A: We welcome parents to join their child for lunch and eat with them at the visitor tables in the cafeteria. You may purchase a lunch tray ($3.80; subject to change) or bring food in with you. Students are not allowed to bring friends to eat with them at the visitor table. For security reasons, we ask that you always check in at the office and pick up your visitor tag anytime you are on campus. A driver’s license is required to sign in.

A: If your child is absent, please send a note containing the child’s first and last name, teacher name, reason for the absence and the day(s) and date(s) of the absence with your child at the time your child returns to school. Some illnesses do not require a doctor’s care and a simple note from the parent will do. Please attach a doctor’s note if the child was seen by a physician. If the doctor’s note states the child may return to school once fever free, please attach a note stating the day(s) and date(s) of the absence. Children who do not arrive by 9:30 a.m. will be counted absent. If your child leaves after 9:30 a.m., notes must also be provided as all partial absences are documented.
