To me, higher education is about more than giving people opportunities to improve their lives. In a community college environment wrestling with our own implicit biases, it takes self-reflection and fearless examination of long-held policies and procedures to acknowledge the need for change within the institution. At ACC, as we commit to supporting the success of all students, especially those least well-served by the institution, our ACC faculty are well positioned to be a fulcrum supporting students who otherwise might feel disconnected from the institution.  ACC Faculty and staff play a unique supporting role in students' success by introducing them to tools that support them on their road to success. 

I enjoy feeling that I am making a difference in my work. Working in a community college, I keep my focus on ways we can support student success, this gives me the opportunity to contribute my talents and skills and allows me to see the difference I make as each student is empowered to change their lives for the better.

Why I Am Staying...

At Austin Community College District, I have found a place where my talents and skills are needed. Everyday, I encounter scenarios that require me to stretch my mind, stretch my skills, use my talents for the good of others. Every day, I see concrete ways in which I am supported by my colleagues and by institutional leadership. That doesn't happen everywhere.
