I want teachers and students at the middle school to be able to tell more about El Cucuy’s folklore story since that was the biggest factor
missing from him as well as to spark the interest to look more into other folklores that are either similar to El Cucuy or different -- or even other folklore stories from other cultures and communities! Furthermore, to see if they can see what sources they can use to find these stories either through texts or maybe even in person. See if you can find a Folklorist within the community that can help further the interest of legends. If I had more time with designing my DYO MAS Lesson Cycle I would see if I can find more texts and information about how learning and being knowledgeable about these legends contributes to more spiritual connection with yourself. We really need more social studies or even other ethnic [studies] classes available in our school system. Not just as clubs and outside activities of the school. We can’t really learn or have more interests in other cultures and communities from just a normal World History class. -- L. Molina
By the end of this cycle, students will be able to:
Tell one of the known myths of El Cucuy
Understand why the myth of El Cucuy and other popular myths are still being told today
Become knowledgeable of other similar legends from other cultures and ethnicities
Understand how myths are incorporated of current culture
Understand the importance of folklorists' position in telling myths
Analyze how particular events in history have encouraged the rise in culture of folklore and art
