Our Process

ACC has been in a period of regular innovation and change for years. The most current innovations include creating a more intentional faculty experience timeline (with relevant milestones and expectations for faculty), updated and comprehensive faculty orientations, and targeting new professional development opportunities! What was missing in this picture was the definition of what it means to be a faculty member at ACC. We as faculty were growing concerned that if we did not do this ourselves we may be defined by others.

Now that Faculty Core Values are clarified, we can seek alignment of what we value with what is required or expected of us. Here is our process: design, dialogue, and deliver.

Design

A group of fifteen faculty members from across the college, adjunct and full-time alike, participated in a two day intensive symposium to start this process in July 2017. Deep reflection and collegial debates were a constant during this event. The inaugural group was able to sketch out a draft that could be shared with a wider audience of faculty.

Dialogue

Faculty association representatives along with symposium participants led Dialogues on every ACC campus to gather feedback on the initial draft of ACC Faculty Core Values. This was a time to have faculty voices heard and to have their ideas included in this important process as we honed our ACC Faculty Core Values. All faculty were invited to attend a Dialogue or submit their feedback in an online form. 41 unique faculty members participated in on-campus dialogues. The initial set of ACC Faculty Core Values gathered from faculty Dialogues across the college was polished and affirmed at a faculty-wide gathering on September 29th following the ACC General Assembly, 55 faculty members participated in this event.

Deliver

We will share our refined and final ACC Faculty Core Values with the administration. The Teaching & Learning Excellence Division along with other areas of the college will collaborate with us to apply this work in faculty programming. Professional development, faculty evaluations, job descriptions, and so on will be aligned to what we define as our purpose in support of ACC's mission.
