Distance education provides the ability for faculty to integrate a variety of technologies & tools into the learning management system which is highly encouraged & part of the rubric for QM certification. Technologies & tools to be discussed include VidGrid, Padlet, Miro, discussions boards, Vocaroo, digital escape rooms using Google Forms, Kahoot, white boards, & Quizlet. The need to technologies/tools will be linked to the QM rubric that is used for certifying all ACC online courses.

In this session we will explore & define what culture means. We will review some of the reasons students decide to enroll in distance learning courses, & review the demographics of students who enroll in distance learning courses. We will review Hofstede’s Cultural Dimensions & identify principles of Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT). Attendees will learn practical tips that they can apply to the online classroom environment & also be able to self-reflect on how they can become a more culturally competent educator.

I would like to present my experiences teaching a service-learning final project in an asynchronous online Ethics class. The focus will be on (1) how I helped students find appropriate service-learning opportunities for my asynchronous Ethics course (2) how I tracked & assessed student learning in their service-learning project & (3) how I learned to avoid pitfalls in service-learning specific to the online asynchronous environment.
