Are you ready to apply for the scholarship?

Before you apply for Career Scholars, be sure:

  1. You have your ACC eID and password.

  2. You have a personal statement of 250-500 words

  3. You have completed your FAFSA/TASFA .

If you do not have an ACC eID or if you used ApplyTexas to apply to ACC, you will need to start a new application here: apply to ACC.

Scholarship Application

Tips for writing your Career Scholars Personal Statement:

In 250-500 words, introduce yourself; what high school you will be graduating from, talk about what kind of activities you're involved in, what your interests are, and describe any family dynamics that set you apart or challenges you have had and/or wish to overcome. How have you been involved in the lives of others that has had a positive impact? Describe any community involvement or extracurricular activities you've participated in.

Things to consider when writing:

  1. Stay on topic, don’t stray away from the main point; why you want this scholarship.

  2. Brag on yourself BIG TIME!

  3. Tell them if you are a first-generation college student.

  4. Write about things that are important to you. It could be an experience, a person, a book, anything that has inspired or made an impact on your life.

  5. Get personal so the review committee gets a sense about you, your family, or what motivates you.


***Below is a guiding example: If you use this word-for-word, the review committee will know, and it will reflect badly on your application. Make your personal statement your story. Ultimately the reviewers want to know about you and your unique experiences to see if you're a good fit for the Career Scholars program. Take your time, and WOW the crowd with your individuality!

Example:

Hello, my name is______. I am a Senior at _______. After graduation, I will be attending Austin Community College to major in________. I am choosing this area of study because_____. After college I plan to_______. The Career Scholars scholarship will allow/assist/help me to succeed by _____. I aspire to (insert: life aspirations, goals, favorite quote). I am involved in activities inside and outside of school (explain roles and positions held). The experiences with these activities and organizations have helped me develop many life skills that I apply every day.(describe life skills). Thank you for the opportunity/Thank you for considering my application for this scholarship program, it would be an honor to continue my education at Austin Community College.
