When you applied for the ACC General Scholarship, if eligible, you were automatically placed in the Adult Career Scholarship pool. From there, we selected high-performing students in high-demand occupational tracks. The scholarship is very competitive and only a small percentage of students were accepted. The aim of the scholarship is to support adult students who can’t always go full time and wish to work in high paying fields.
What is the start date for the Scholarship Funds?
Fall
Can I take a semester off?
You can always take summer semesters off. There are NO enrollment requirements during the summer. You may take a fall or spring semester off if you contact Adult Career Scholars staff ahead of time and the manager, at ogarzwe@austincc.edu. We will evaluate your need on a case by case basis. We understand that things come up and you may need to take a break. You have 3 years to use your funds.
You should take at least 9 credits in Fall and Spring semesters. This is to ensure you will complete your degree within 3 years. You do not have to take any classes in summer. If you can’t take at least 8 credit hours or need to take a semester off, you must contact the Career Scholars program manager, Oddett Garza-Weatherspoon. We will evaluate your needs on a case by case basis.
You have 3 years to use your funds.
No. But the scholarship will cover summer classes should you decide to take summer classes.
How does this work if I’m out of district?
Great news! As a Career Scholar, you will be granted in-district tuition.
How is the money dispersed?
For scholarships that are for tuition, fees - the scholarship will be adjusted to reflect the tuition and fee expense regardless of Pell amount. Also, if your Pell Grant paid tuition/fees first, you will be reimbursed and refunded the amount paid towards tuition and fees. Your scholarship funding will occur within the first week after classes begin.
