YAM celebrates with a Flag Design Contest to represent Texas nationally. There is a YAM Exhibit for 100 artists at the State Capitol, followed by exhibit and awards reception at Bullock Texas State History Museum in Austin. District and Area associations create YAM scrapbooks celebrating year-round advocacy and YAM events. This is a great way to connect art educators with tools for advocacy and communicating the importance of quality visual arts programs at the local, regional and state level.
The purpose of TEAM is to provide a collegiate assessment for an individual elementary art student based on the standards of TEKS, Bloom's Taxonomy and the Feldman Model. Additionally, TEAM provides constructive criticism (actual feedback) for the student's literary and expressive process. Participating teachers receive the following: Certificates for all participating students, award ribbons for entries receiving a rating Good or Grow, and medals for those that rated Exemplary, a juror rating form on each entry (like VASE there are 2 glows and a grow), a commendation letter to the principal, an evaluation form to be completed by the teacher, and a list of the "Top of the Team" (top 10%) works that will possibly be on the TAEA web page.
Junior VASE is A TAEA visual arts event recognizing exemplary, intermediate, middle school, and junior high student artwork. Any intermediate, middle school, or junior high teacher who is a TAEA member may enter as many students as they wish but each student may only have two works entered.
The mission of the TAEA Visual Arts Scholastic Event (VASE) is to recognize exemplary student achievement in the Visual Arts by providing art students and programs a standard of excellence in which to achieve.
High School VASE entries number around 35,000. Students create artworks, write about their creative processes and understanding of visual art, and articulate information about their artwork during an interview with a VASE juror, who evaluates their work using a standards-based rubric.
