Emery Park Elementary Wellness Center
The Viking's Wellness Center is to provide students with alternative activities to do during lunch instead of the traditional lunch recess activities.
In general, the room is open during lunch time on Monday, Wednesday and Friday unless Gateway staff is in a meeting. In addition to traditional board games, students can also draw and color pictures, and read books.
Mindfulness
On Mondays, we practice mindfulness in the Viking Wellness Center. Mindfulness is the practice of being still in the moment. In our culture of busyness and distraction, practicing mindfulness gives our brains and bodies the needed stillness to focus, to calm down, and to rest. Every week, Gateway staff will review and practice mindful techniques with students from grades 1-8 during lunch. Mindful activities may include:
Belly breaths
Guided body scans
Yoga/stretches
Meditation
