Attention and Focus - Practice classroom behavior: for example, you could give your child longer tasks that require that they concentrate for longer periods of time. Ask them to plan in advance the games they will play with friends. This all helps your child get ready for school.
Social-Emotional Learning - Understands the viewpoint of others and is aware that others can have different thoughts. Continues to develop social skills like empathy and compassion. Play is no longer just fantasy play where imagination is the key element; more often children choose rules-based games where the rules are the key element and winning the game is more frequently the objective. Play is important. It’s still how your child learns and builds social, emotional and thinking skills.
Listening and Speaking - Participates in collaborative conversations with different partners about a variety of topics and texts with peers and adults in small and larger groups. Follows rules for discussions (e.g., listening to others with care, speaking one at a time about the topics and texts under discussion). Builds on others’ talk in conversations by responding to the comments of others through multiple exchanges. Asks questions to clear up any confusion about the topics and texts under discussion.
Reading - Actively engages in reading with purpose and understanding. Independently reads books like Henry and Mudge, The First Book.
Writing - Write to teach, write stories and write opinions using complete sentences and proper punctuation.
