Career/Vocational Assessments: Assessments that evaluate the student’s interests, skills and abilities. The results are utilized to assist students to choose a rewarding, lasting career and to evaluate transition needs.
Several Types of Assessments May Include the Following:
Formal Assessments are typically in one of the following categories:
Aptitude/Ability Tests—measures overall abilities, general intelligence, achievement, aptitude.
Interest Inventories—helps individuals identify their preferences for a particular activity.
Personality Surveys—matches types of interests to the Holland Code (Self Directed Search) or Myers Briggs.
Values Assessments—assists individuals in identifying characteristics of occupations of value to them.
Career Development Assessments—determines where a person is in the career development process.
Informal Assessments: Card sorts, interviews, individual and group discussions, job shadowing, and situational assessments.
Self-Assessment: a self-inventory that requires students to reflect on their personal traits, skills, interests and aptitudes to identify their natural talents and abilities.
Computerized Information Systems: Matches data assessment, data for research, and exploration.
Special Vocational Assessments: May include a diagnostic process to identify learning styles, vocational interests, skills, talents and aptitudes, and/or the student’s need for accommodation(s).
