2022 summer school policies and options
Given the ongoing impact of Covid-19 on the traditional classroom learning environment, we have reviewed our online summer school policies to ensure that they continue to support and reflect the needs of our current and incoming students. These policies will be reviewed again next year to ensure their relevancy and efficacy.

As always, students are not permitted to take initiatory grade level English or Modern World History courses.
As always, students may access summer programs such as Arcadia Educational Foundation (AEF) and other WASC and UC-approved courses to make-up grade deficiencies or accelerate toward graduation and college entrance requirements. Please note that links to the most commonly utilized summer school programs are provided at the end of this document.
Whereas students were previously prohibited from taking initiatory classes unless they were being conducted in a traditional classroom environment, students will be allowed to take any initiatory class this summer that has historically been offered in such a manner. As always, in the interest of promoting equal access, if a student finds the same course AEF is offering, but at a lower price through another provider, they will be allowed to enroll in that course. This would include online Chemistry, Biology, and Physics courses offered through UC-approved providers.
Additionally, whereas students were previously prohibited from taking initiatory online math and world language classes for advancement purposes, students will be allowed to take such classes and then advance to the next level upon return to Arcadia High School. Per usual, students wanting to advance will still need to demonstrate that they earned either (1) at least a C in each semester or (2) a rising C average. This would also include classes such as Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, and Precalculus at AEF, or initiatory math and world language courses through UC-approved private online providers. (Given the extensive amount of material that must be mastered and retained in such classes, please note that while this course of action is permissible, it is not necessarily advisable.)
As always, students are not permitted to take initiatory online AP courses that we offer at Arcadia High School such as AP Calculus AB or AP Chemistry. With counselor permission, students are permitted to take initiatory online AP courses through UC-approved private online providers that we do not offer at AHS such as AP Psychology or AP Macroeconomics.
As always, students may not take initiatory PE during the summer, except if approved by a counselor or administrator due to extenuating circumstances.
In the interest of protecting our practices, underclassmen will not be allowed to take initiatory courses this summer that historically have not been available to their grade level. This would include college preparatory Psychology A & B now being offered through Opportunities for Learning (OFL), a class designated at AHS for juniors and seniors only.
Per the new summer school policy implemented prior to COVID-19, students may take a maximum of 15.0 credits in the summer and place them on the AHS transcript. This includes any combination of make-up and/or initiatory credits. Please note that students will only be able to complete 10 credits at OFL due to their July Intersession timeline and guidelines.
As always, students are limited to one semester of math at OFL per summer. Therefore, math at OFL continues to be for make-up purposes only. Students cannot enroll in initiatory math at OFL. Please also note that science courses are not available at OFL for either make-up or initiatory purposes.
