Science Bowl is an academic team in which a team of four students competes against another team to verbally answer questions about Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Earth and Space Science, Energy, Statistics, and Math. Team members do not need to have mastery in all subjects but rather just mastery in one subject. The winning team of the JPL Regional Science Bowl Competiiton competes at the National Science Bowl Competition sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy. AP level subject content mastery is sufficient.

Science Olympiad (SO) consists of a team of approximately 30 members. Most members will compete in at least one invitational competition throughout December and January, and 15 members will compete at regional and state competitions in February and April). The competition consists of 23 events that include written tests as well as hands-on laboratory exams, experimental design components, and building events, in which devices are constructed beforehand to complete given tasks. The events cover a wide spectrum of subjects such as astronomy, chemistry, physics, forensics, ecology, geology, earth science, computer science, etc. There are also a number of creative building events that include building bottle rockets, vehicles, towers, and more. The AHS team has done well at both the regional and state level, placing consistently in the top three at regionals.

We are a year-long academic team focused on digging through the depths of physics and having fun while at it! Our main competition is the F=ma Competition, and if they do super well team members can even advance to the USAPhO, which is another round. In terms of meetings, much time is spent in the world of mechanics. We try to go in depth, and aim to capture interest with interesting problems. Discussions are very valued. Finally, beginners welcome! (especially for underclassmen, who haven't had as much opportunity to learn the subject!)
