(Rob&Cod S 1030)
This course will provide an in-depth introduction to Robotics through the MINDSTORMS EV3 platform. Students will be involved in the design and building of robots to perform tasks through logic. Students will work in teams to design, build, program and document their progress. Topics may include motor control, gear ratios, torque, friction, sensors, and decision-making systems. The objective of this course is to use a hands-on approach to introduce the basic concepts in robotics, focusing on mobile robots and illustrations of current state of the art research and applications. Students will be introduced to educational and career possibilities within the field of Robotics and Artificial Intelligence.
During the 2nd semester, students will develop original designs for robots on the Mindstorms EV3 platform using the Engineering Design Cycle and the skills developed the first semester. Students will also have the opportunity to build their own robots using Arduino boards and coding in Python.
