We know that Children with learning disabilities are as smart or smarter than their peers and a learning disability results from a difference in the way a person’s brain is “ wired” . So we have to teach them by a systematic and explicit method that involves several senses (hearing, seeing, touching ) at the same time and I want to share my experience in teaching learning disability students in Peak Conference . So in my workshop I will explain about the types of learning difficulties in general and specifically Dyslexia , General characteristics of Dyslexia , Guidelines during treatment of dyslexic readers. And I prepared some videos about some strategies we can apply with dyslexic reader and at the end of workshop we will play kahoot.
This workshop will introduce a system which aims to develop the writing skills of students of all ages, unlimited to the classroom setting. The system very conveniently allows the teacher to observe and evaluate their students’ work and leave a comment, video, or slide as a note. Using this tool can help deliver education in a wide variety of ways and will continue to build bridges between the students and teachers.
Teachers will be asked to install the trail version of the App HP Reveal on their smart phones and we will have some very useful hands on exercises.
I will focus on my experience being a slow learner student. I will discuss how those students have difficulties in learning how they deal with it.. and how we should as a teachers deal with it. I will discuss as well class room environment, home entertainment, some of behaviors. I will discuss communication, language, and the initial assessment of the language

We cannot teach a child without having to communicate with him/her, every kid need’s an idol/someone to look up to in their life, and if he can’t find them at home he will seek them outside. (do you think you can be that idol/someone)? We should always be there for them to raise them up with more positive levels of mental health and lower levels of behavioral problems. We are there to teach and lead with an ethic of care. Our students must feel how we help, support, motivate, inspire and care about them because they may forget what we said but they will never forget how we made them feel. We are hardwired to connect with others. This makes communication the base of making our students, to help them face the world in a confident and successful way. In my workshop i will explain to the audience the importance and need of communication in our daily life. Last point is that i will try my best to make you understand how to make our students feel worthy and valued in our society
The easiest way to engage students with videos by picking a video, adding a magical touch and tracking students’ understanding. Interactive video saves time and improves student learning by taking an already existing video on Youtube, Khan Academy, Crash Course etc. or uploading your own, by enabling self-paced learning with interactive lessons, adding one’s voice and questions along the video, and by knowing if your students are watching your videos, how many times and see the answers they give.

During this workshop, I will be discussing different active learning strategies to study and enhance vocabulary and verb usage in foreign languages. I will focus my talk on 8 different activities and explain how to set it up and why it’s useful to practice them in a language class. These games can be practiced at the beginning of a class as a “warm up” or at the end as a “Recap” of a lesson. It can help students recognize and understand the language in a more relaxed atmosphere while banishing boredom and retaining their attention. The eight activities are the following: 5 phrase skit, Conjugation game, Miming game, Conversation game, Categories list, Theme sentences, Picture description, Ball throw questions
MovieTalk is a technique for language learning developed by Dr. Ashley Hastings, in which the teacher uses short, engaging videos on YouTube to provide lots of interesting comprehensible input to their students. An article written by Jordan NC, Glutting J, Ramineni C. in 2010, states that "Children's symbolic number sense was examined at the beginning of first grade with a short screen of competencies related to counting, number knowledge, and arithmetic operations. Conventional mathematics achievement was then assessed at the end of both first and third grades. Controlling for age and cognitive abilities (i.e., language, spatial, and memory), number sense made a unique and meaningful contribution to the variance in mathematics achievement at both first and third grades. Furthermore, the strength of the predictions did not weaken over time. Number sense was most strongly related to the ability to solve applied mathematics problems presented in various contexts. The number sense screen taps important intermediate skills that should be considered in the development of early mathematics assessments and interventions." This workshop will focus on the importance of developing number sense beginning in early childhood through the primary grades. We will discuss strategies and activities to teach number sense as well as how to effectively incorporate manipulatives.
This workshop will show teachers how to effectively use analytical and adaptive software to track student progress in real time. Attendees will learn how to use Adaptive E-learning programs to intervene, track, and tailor their students' learning experiences based on individual student ability and understanding.
Learning is not a spectator sport, Let's Play! Children can learn to make sense of the world around them if they have access to well planned high quality play. Through play children can develop social and cognitive skills, mature emotionally, and gain the self-confidence required to engage in new experiences and environments. They can also develop many of the academic skills and knowledge that are expected in education and school. This workshop will is aimed at early childhood educators who are interested in exploring teaching Math through play, we will look at the research and theories supporting play based learning as well as share ideas and experiences of hands on play-based math learning engagements.
This workshop will take our beloved childhood games and add a twist to them to make the development of phonological awareness and phonics engaging. We know that young children are curious, love exploring and are always excited to learn through real life application. They are eager to understand and make sense of the world around them. Children like to build things, collect different objects and organize them, take things apart and then put them back together. All of these things are what STEM is based on. We will discover what STEM is and discuss how we as Early Childhood educators have the opportunity to bring the STEM disciplines to life in our classrooms and effectively discuss and try different activities that will foster this practice.
The literacy program that is used in most classrooms is using a Basal reader. This new approach lets us think outside the box and get the children more engaged. This can be used for all areas of literacy, writing and phonics. It is very effective for all learners because it meets needs of the learner and the teacher. The approach can be used to teach and to assess. The goal is to be an independent learner and the teacher is the facilitator. This can be adapted in many ways. As ESL learners, students need the motivation to enjoy learning and be hands-on.
Sharnissa A. Washington is a 17-year veteran teacher dedicated to ensuring high quality learning for all students. Join her for a highly active workshop providing strategic approaches to classroom centers and differentiation. The workshop will show you how to cultivate a learning environment for all learners through hands-on activities and centers. Navigate through centers with best practices, technology, informal assessments and successful classroom management strategies. Form productive groups by utilizing the I DO, WE DO, YOU DO approach, that will ensure learning on all levels. No worries, eliminate rules because centers will involve mutual respect and a quest for knowledge. Centers can used in all subject areas among all grade levels.
Disruptive behavior is a major issue in managing a classroom and something many teachers struggle with. Disruptive behavior can be described as any behavior that interferes with teaching, the rights of others to learn, or the security of others (physically and psychologically). This workshop will deal with techniques to reduce disruptive behavior and manage discipline issues. The main focus will be on out-of-seat movement and keeping the classroom quiet in the grade levels between Kindergarten up to Grade 2. The aim of this workshop is to create a positive and safe environment that will result in more effective learning as well as a strong sense of well-being for the students. The techniques that will be discussed in this workshop will mostly include positive reinforcement (reward systems for agreeable behavior) and negative reinforcement (consequences for disagreeable behavior). Many of the issues will deal with my experiences working as a teacher in Kuwait (for 12 years). Like most teachers who just started working here, I initially had cultural and linguistic barriers that I have learned to overcome with practice and research. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in English Language and Linguistics from the University of York (UK), a Masters Degree in Education from Framingham State University (US) and a British Council CELTA teaching certificate for Teaching English as a Second Language from the University of Cambridge(UK).
Differentiation defined in itself is multidimensional. Exploring different content areas, processes, learning environments, and flexible grouping establishes innovative classrooms and effective teaching strategies. Keeping the end in mind, creating autonomous learners who can solve problems from many different facets is our goal as educators. More importantly, creating autonomous learners by giving them choice and appealing to their interests puts the power in the student's hands. The power of choice for a child and even an adult changes the way we approach learning and solving problems. One way is no longer the right way. Problem solving is developed through critical thinking skills and creativity, exposing many different routes to the solution. Every child is different. Teaching isn't valuable unless we reach every student in our classroom, not just the ones who think like us. It is our job to understand learning processes and to provide opportunities for students to explore learning through differentiation.
Whether you have a behavior or an academic issue in your classroom. This simulation will make you experience some of the problems your student faces. Through this interactive workshop you will get to experience both what it is like to be a child again and have strategies to use on how to deal with these problems in the future.

In addition to placing student thinking at the center of what they do, teachers must also have a window into that thinking: what do students understand and how are they understanding it? This is what is meant by “making thinking visible.” It is only once they have this information that teachers can help students move to the next level in their thinking. Currently, by plowing through material, teachers don’t fully know what students understand. Attending to student understanding is time consuming and messy so instead, teachers rapidly cover what is needed for the test and largely keep student thinking invisible. By making student learning visible, we help to demystify for our students what thinking and learning is all about. We must model for students what it means to engage with ideas and think, and show them that learning is about much more than memorizing for a test.
This workshop will cover innovative strategies for proactive classroom management. Based on the book, Conscious Classroom Management by teacher and author, Rick Smith. Presentation will include role play, video, discussion and collaboration.

In the session, audiences will have an experience like students where they will try the different strategies and use the described websites to test their knowledge.
Understanding how the brain processes and learns information in the math classroom. Why is learning new information challenging for learners? How does language play a role in learning new content? How can we as educators take this information and enhance our classrooms?
A growth mindset in mathematics includes thinking of math not only as a set of procedures to be memorized and followed to reach a "correct" answer. As a discipline, math has its own, unique and precise "mathematical language" that must be understood for students to be truly successful. Hence, teachers, parents and students must begin to see math class as more than "just numbers". They must see it as a place to precisely communicate concepts logically and coherently.
Workshop will be focused on both teacher and students. How to save the environment and not print, but to set Rubrics online (Google Forms). How students can write everyday assignment quickly on a sticky note.(Google Keep)
This workshop will explore various classroom management styles and techniques. Learn how to have learners use their whole brain to engage in every lesson. Techniques and tip will be modeled during this workshop. Resources will also be shared so you can implement this in your classroom tomorrow.
Abstract
The learning and the teaching processes become more enjoyable and successful with the usage of digital tools that allow students to interact and get more involved. The workshop will demonstrate the implementation of three web-based tools that create excitement and reinforce learning in class. The first tool is Mentimeter which is used for online collaboration allowing students to answer questions anonymously. The second tool is Quizziz which helps teachers choose from millions of free teacher created quizzes or quickly make his/her own. The third tool is QR codes that can make the learning more engaging by taking the learner to a digital destination through a barcode. The workshop will discuss some ideas for teaching with QR codes. The teacher’s tool box can include the three tools for the next day to start enjoying them with students.
Summary
Mentimeter is an easy-to –use presentation software that allows students to participate actively, and it can be used as a formative assessment tool. Quizziz enables students to get free quizzes to review and get engaged in class. QR codes give a good utilization of the excitement of technology. The audience will practice using the three tools during the session.
In my workshop I am establishing a new concept of teaching and a new job description for teachers where teachers are salesmen and they are trying their best to convince the students (customers) with their subjects (products) so in my workshop I will introduce the teachers to a new way of teaching which is called teaching by creating a demand and this happens by starting your lesson with a problem that is related to students real life, future careers and to the subjects so in order to solve it you need to use the subject knowledge which makes the students ready and enthusiastic for learning after that I will introduce a group of activities, interactive programs and educational videos which are related to science generally and math specifically which involving students in learning and audiences which will play the role of students that enjoy the activities and the magical math tricks where math is used to predict numbers , the interactive programs that are made by me that make the student have fun through learning and also how these activities should differentiate according to students needs besides that animation moves (made by me) that make solving like stories and the elements of the stories are from the subject .
In a short form I will try my best to show teachers how to visualize the concept of math and science and make it closer to students minds and I hope that my workshop will be like a time machine that takes the attendees to their childhood and think like student and have a lot of fun in my workshop.
This workshop delivers a cognitive behavioral modality for enhancing Teacher Resiliency, in order to help educators maintain composure and respond effectively to the challenging behaviors of students, parents and work-related stress.
“Don’t be afraid... Don’t be shy... Never Hesitate... Just tell it... It is all FINE!!!”
This workshop aims to highlight the importance of implementing Stories and Storytelling techniques as an educational tool in teaching English to both native English language speakers and speakers of other languages. The telling of stories has been a vital mechanism of communication ever since humans developed language. These days, stories are not just for parents with children or journalists with readers but beyond. Good teachers have always known the power and the effectiveness of stories in the classroom. This workshop defines and differentiates some of practical tools and authentic examples of stories that the teacher can use with the students in the classroom. The workshop also lists the different types of stories the teacher is meant to adopt. In this workshop I will shed light on how to prepare and select appropriate stories according to age, culture, language and visual. I have suggested some skill-based stories as well that can be included in most syllabi for children. This workshop will help the teachers practice how to create classroom-related stories with the children and learn storytelling techniques. In the end, I have tried to clarify and emphasize the teacher’s four crucial roles in helping children learn how to learn through stories and foster reading skills as a key to improve the learner’s literacy. I hope this workshop will be a useful resource for teachers who will be taking part in the 2019 PEAK Conference “Reaching New Heights in Education” Organised by American United School of Kuwait.
Even though surrounded by smartphones, supercomputers and artificial intelligence, children did not lose their natural creativity and never ceased to think outside the box while exploring science.
Being a scientist is about asking questions and being curious, exploring and experimenting, figuring out how things work in the real world. So while teaching science, it is very important to create conditions where children feel connected with others and connected to the world. But how can we cultivate that? How can we encourage our kids to capture science from the lens of real-world?
“Bringing Science to Life” workshop will provide information on how to tie science concepts, questions, and problems into everyday life, in addition of a science learning framework that foster active learning and engaging methods of reasoning.
Why should we encourage them to be good problem solvers? In fact, our kids are growing up in a world that requires scientific and critical thinking skills. In order to foster critical thinking in our classroom, we will experiment in this workshop, interactive activities and practical work that help cultivate natural curiosity and passion for experimentation. As educators, we always think about trying to integrate our content when we teach to connect the topic to everyday life. By following this framework, we are not only increasing the depth of understanding, but we are also freeing up instructional time so we can embed amazing projects and challenges right into our daily instructions.
If we work together, as parents and educators, we can preserve, protect and enhance children natural desire to explore and create at school, at home and in the community in order to help our kids be successful in this challenging world.
This is an introduction to using the open-ended approach to teach mathematics.
