Rebecca, what are your daily duties or activities?
We’re mostly introduced to the basics of dental science and taught emergency operations. Some of my duties include lab work like mixing powders for teeth impressions, learning to take x-rays and practicing health procedures on people. Overall demonstrating my knowledge so far to move on to different dental tasks
What do you like about it so far?
I like that I’m able to experience what happens in a real dental office/lab and performing all responsibilities. I also enjoy group work and participating in hands on activities I’ve been taught
What are your goals for the future?
I want to start out assisting in the dental field, then earn a bachelor’s degree in biology and further my education to be an Orthodontist
Our Biomedical Science Senior Spotlight this month is Karsyn Tandy. Karsyn's internship is at Seven Hills Veterinary Clinic. She is gaining experience helping the vet techs, prepping her patients for surgery, socializing with the patients, and learning lots of the happenings behind the scenes at a Vet Clinic. She has goals of attending a university to ultimately become a Veterinarian that does general surgeries, maybe at her very own clinic!

Current Internship earned through the Executive internship program partnering with Pickens Technical College. Elisa is a 4 year student in the Biomedical Science Pathway at Vista PEAK. Her current internship is at the Infusion Clinic at the Rocky Mountain Regional VA Center.
From Elisa: "The infusion clinic has anywhere from 3 to 8 registered nurses, not including NPs, that work daily in front of me helping the patients and helping them to obtain their treatments. I watch and note the way that they handle patients and most times the nurse will fill me in on patient information( what they are allowed to tell me, or the patient tells me their self) and explain the type of medications that are bring given and the reason for the medication that is being given. The nurses have also taken a liking to me which has caused them to be invested in my future. This has prompted a nurse named Kerry to inform me of scholarships and colleges that would be an excellent path for me to take. "
