The Biomedical Sciences Academic and Career Pathway prepares students for jobs and further studies in the healthcare field, including medicine, nursing, pharmacology, healthcare management and physical therapy.
Students benefit from hands-on learning and field trips to the facilities of community partners, including the state-of-the-art Anschutz Medical Campus and Downtown Campus, the Children’s Hospital, the Fitzsimmons Redevelopment Center, the Community College of Aurora, the Metro Community Provider Network and the Colorado Area Health Education Center Program. These partnerships were developed through the Aurora LIGHTS grant.

The healthcare industry is expected to create more jobs by 2016 than any other industry in the United States. Studies suggest that 3 million new healthcare jobs will be created in the next 10 years. Students at APS have the opportunity to get their foot in the door in the health sciences field. As the demand for qualified workers in healthcare rises, students who pursue this pathway will be strategically positioned for success.
Students in the Biomedical Sciences Pathway will graduate with an impressive record and a solid foundation that prepares them to apply to a variety of colleges or universities that provide medical school, nursing school or another health sciences programs. Students at some APS schools will even have the opportunity to earn certifications that qualify them as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Dental Assistant or First Responder.
