1st Grade

Our goal in first grade music is to build the foundation of skills that will help each student enjoy music for the rest of their lives!

Every class we do activities that focus on the developing beat/rhythm awareness (beatful), singing voice and melodic thinking (tuneful), and expression of the art part (volume, weight, emotion). That means each class we do up to 8 separate, smaller activities! Ask your student about all the things we do in class!

October:

  • Ask your student about the rhyme 'Queen Caroline' and how we used this rhyme to explore many ways to use our voices and track a steady beat!

First grade is learning about TIMBRE (tam-ber) or types of sounds. First we discovered that just like people and animals, instruments have timbre families!

We used the wood, metal, shaker, and skin families to practice steady beat to the song 'Acka Backa' as well practice echoing simple rhythms!

August:

An essential part of musicianship is being able to move to music in a meaningful way.

During every musical work out we explore music with our bodies-ask your student about the statue song we've practiced!
