A Community of Support includes people inside and outside of schools that invest in a student’s growth and development needed to accomplish their plan.  Students will identify, develop, and connect with their community of support to help bring their plans to life.

While report cards are a great way to recognize your academic skills, you have skills and achievements beyond what shows up on your report card. Are you a leader in class or on the field? Do you create things? Have you shown strong communication skills? Colleges and employers are asking for people who can show that they have the skills needed to succeed in their demanding environments. You need to be able to talk about your skills and how they connect with your classroom experiences and goals after high school.

What could I write? 

• Consider reflecting on and writing about your areas of strengths, areas where you want to grow, what are your goals and why are these important to you.  What are things you have accomplished that make you or your family proud?

• Do you have goals and/or test scores that you can write about quarterly? What about your academic growth? You can write about your next steps and goals connected to your test scores? 

• You can write about the essential skills you have learned that are important for all careers and colleges. Where do the following skills show up both at and outside of school--Communicator (media/digital/data literacy, interpersonal communication), Problem Solver (critical thinking & analysis, collaboration and teamwork, creativity & innovation,  adaptability & flexibility),  Community Member (civic engagement, global & cultural awareness, social awareness),  Empowered Individual (self awareness, self management, perseverance & resilience, self advocacy & initiative,  career awareness)? How will these skills help you in the classroom or while at work?

• Reflect on your Individual Career & Academic Plan (ICAP).
