Elementary READ Assessment
APS READ Assessment
The READ Act requires the use of an interim assessment to determine whether a student has a significant reading deficiency in grades K through 3. On March 12, 2013, the State Board voted to approve lists of approved diagnostic and summative assessments per requirements of the Colorado READ Act. Diagnostic assessments are required only for students identified with a significant reading deficiency for the purpose of identifying the child's specific reading deficits(s). The READ Act requires that districts like APS use an interim and diagnostic assessment from CDE's List of Approved Diagnostic and Summative Assessments. APS uses i-Ready as both the interim and diagnostic assessment tool.
All Elementary and P-8 students take i-Ready three times a year. If a K-3 student is at or below the i-Ready cut scores for that time of the year, they need to be considered for a READ plan. All students in grades 9-12 that have a READ plan need to take the i-Ready Diagnostic assessment three times a year during the APS-specified assessment administration windows. The i-Ready diagnostic assessment scores can be used for progress monitoring data and are a necessary piece of data used as part of the body of evidence that is used for exiting a student from a READ plan.
