UFLI - Triangle Fluency Cards
Description:
These triangle cards help to build fluency in a stepped format. Students love to read each line within the triangle in one breath, eventually reading each sentence at the bottom of the triangle smoothly and fluently. The goal is for each student to practice repeated readings which will help to bridge the application to connected text.
Directions:
The triangle cards are great to use in Guided Reading, Guided Reading center partner work, home practice.

UFLI - Reading Sheets (Words/Sentences)
Description:
Repeated readings of words and sentences are a researched-based way to increase fluency. Reading words and sentences several times for different purposes helps to support fluent reading.
Directions:
Read a set of words based on the phonics skill that is lagging to promote smooth reading. Students may need to tap and blend sounds but should reread for automaticity.

When progress monitoring, the goal is to read the words and sentences accurately and smoothly. When students accurately and smoothly read 80% of the words and sentences, move on to the next phonetic skill.
Sentences can receive an overall + or - based on if the student reads the sentence smoothly. Each word in the sentence should receive a + or - based on if the student reads accurately.
(A) Repeated Reading
Description:
Repeated reading is a researched-based way to increase fluency. Reading a passage several times for different purposes helps to support fluent reading.
Directions:
Read the same passage or several lines in a passage. Try reading each time for a different purpose. See below for examples.
Read once for meaning and to take the time to discuss unknown vocabulary.
Read one time to slow down and decode tricky words.
Read the passage for prosidy (expression).
Read to put the whole passage together - meaning, decoding, prosidy, and fluency.

(B) Repeated Reading
Directions:
Read the same book or passage at an independent or instructional level 3 times. The teacher or student can read the passage using the order outlined below or change the order to meet your needs.

Whisper read

Fluency Prompts
Description:
The fluency prompts found in the prompting guide will help a teacher choose targeted prompts based on what the student is neglecting while reading, along with considering the level of support needed. The levels of support follow the teach, practice and reinforce format with the teach prompts being the highest level of support and the reinforce prompts being the lowest level of teacher support.
Directions:
Teacher language while instructing reading is extremely important. Selected prompts will help a teacher choose targeted language to use during teaching based on what the student is neglecting while reading, along with determining just the right level of support that is needed. The levels of support follow the teach, practice and reinforce format with the teach prompt being the highest level of support and the reinforce prompts being the lowest level of teacher support. The goal is for the reading to read smoothly at a good rate with prosidy, expression and inflection.
