Art Electives are a way for students to go more in depth into a specific art medium. Below are the summaries for this year's offered Art electives, as well as the schedule. Electives run for about 9 weeks per group of students.

1st Grade "How to Draw Cartoons":
In this elective, students will analyze the drawing style commonly known as “cartoon”. They will learn some basic drawing techniques and use them to draw popular cartoon characters from today’s world, as well as their own original cartoon characters.
2nd Grade "Pop-Up Art & Paper Sculpture":
In this elective, students will use paper beyond the 2-dimensional world of drawing, painting and collage. They will learn some basic paper sculpting techniques and apply them in a variety of ways to create 3-dimensional paper artworks that pop-up or stand up.
3rd Grade "Fiber Art Fun":
In this elective, students will use yarn, string and other fibers to create wearable artworks more commonly known as “friendship bracelets”. They will practice a variety of skills including basic and advanced knot-tying, braiding and other weaving patterns as they create decorative and wearable fiber artworks.
4th Grade "Origami":
In this elective, students will be introduced to the ancient Japanese art of paper folding known as “Origami”. They will practice basic origami techniques as they create both classic and modern origami sculptures. They will also learn the importance of patience and precision in this art form.
5th Grade "Claymation (Stop Motion Animation with Clay)": *NEW for 2025/2026*
In this elective, students will combine art and technology to create Clay Stop Motion Animation, aka “Claymation”. They will learn basic sculpting techniques, and use technology tools to bring their sculptures to life on the screen!
6th Grade "Cardboard Construction":
In this elective, students will use cardboard, glue and more to create 3-dimensional cardboard artworks. They will learn a variety of basic attachment techniques, and utilize them to create their own creative cardboard sculpture.
5th/6th Grades "Fine Arts Show" (FAS): In this year-long elective, 5th & 6th grade students will learn a variety of skills needed to curate an Art Show. After learning about a variety of careers in an Art Museum, they will practice skills for preparing and preserving artworks for display. Throughout the year they will also participate in team-building challenges with their peers, present themed art displays around the school and create art collaboratively as a group. Finally, they will put all of these skills together as they plan, prepare and execute Aura School’s annual Fine Art Show.
