The first chapter of the Fort Defiance High School Future Business Leaders of America was activated in September 2014. The chapter collected $10 state and national dues from 21 students. Advisers were: Mrs. Doris Gardner, Ms. Courtney Skemp, and Mrs. Heather Yeager.
Mrs. Tonya Cleveland transferred from Buffalo Gap High School to replace Ms. Skemp in Fall 2015. In Fall 2021, Mrs. Heather Yeager transferred to Rockingham County Public Schools; Mr. Dwight Denlinger replaced her at FDHS. Mr. Denlinger retired in Spring 2023. In Fall 2023, the Business & IT Dept. added Mr. Chris Knecht and Mrs. Lindsey Walsh. In Fall 2025, Mr. Knecht moved to Wilson Memorial High School; and Mr. Bryce Harlow became the newest member of the FDHS Business & IT Dept.

We returned to school 5-days a week with masks required in Fall 2021. Mrs. Yeager moved to East Rock HS in RCPS, we welcomed Mr. Denlinger as a new business teacher. In spite of no regular traditional monthly club days, we were able to increase membership (26 members) and participation, as we held six monthly meetings during a modified activity schedule during teacher planning periods. Masks became optional in the middle of second semester; regional and state events returned to 'normal' as in-person conferences with virtual options. The State Leadership Conference was held during our Spring Break and no students were able to attend this year.
As we returned to school after being shut down in March 2020 for COVID-19, we had three members willing to serve as officers. They planned the October 20, 2020 meeting which was held at 7:30 am, with safe distancing, and a special guest speaker from the JMU Admissions Office, Mr. Jason Gochenour. Mr. Gochenour used Google Meet to speak to members remotely about tips on the college application process.
In 2020-2021, we had 15 members and their dues were paid for by a county source. Unfortunately, due to COVID restrictions, we did not have much participation or interest in our other planned activities.
All FBLA Conferences were held virtually, due to COVID restrictions. In March and April, two members placed at Regionals and States in Financial Math and Impromptu Speaking events. Our president, A. McLean, competed at Nationals in the Impromptu Speaking event.
